  1. Detroit Free Press: Lions' Terrion Arnold arrested; charges carry possible life in prison
  2. Can't Sorsby be a UDFA or can he not be since he didn't declare for the draft? I'm guessing the NFLPA union, in conjunction with the league, have strict collective bargaining rules around how a person can and cannot enter the league.
  3. BRUTAL! We simply can’t do things like pass the most popular program in our country’s history with the largest voting block in the country. Instead, we should opt for small to medium sized policy goals. This is not good messaging. We cannot fix what's broken is even worse messaging.
  4. Nothing. I want to rebuild and tank next season. Playing along though, I would not trade Larkin straight up for Schmaltz. Schmaltz has only had one 70 point season in his career and only twice cracked 60 points or more. Larkin has had 3 seasons of 70 points or more and 3 more with 60 points or more. I'd expect a 1st to be thrown in if Larkin were traded to Utah for Schmaltz.
  5. Maybe he'll grow up to be Mateen Cleaves.
  6. Brad Lander is the wrong type of Jew weren't you told? Just like Andy Levin, Bernie Sanders, and Eli Savit.
  7. If Bowen Byrum, who plays no defense and is a poor man's Paul Coffey offensively, can command a top 5 pick, so too can Larkin or DeBrincat.
  8. Yaxel is gone, that sucks.
  9. Like Dylan Larkin or Alex DeBrincat?
  10. GET THE #2 PICK STEVIE!!! San Jose is loading up picks for a big trade. Larkin or DeBrincat for #2 overall.
  11. If we trade Larkin straight up for Robertson or insert NHL player here we are going to be in the same position as this past year, at best. If Robertson or any wing is the trade piece we get back, we're doubly screwed. Unless Yzerman has some grand plan to get a center as good or better than Larkin, who is going to be our #1 center if Robertson or a wing are the return in a trade? You cannot have Marco Kasper, Andrew Copp, or JT Compher as your team's #1 center, you just cannot. Nate Danielson wasn't even ready for a 4th line spot at center, let alone being thrown into the fire that is a top line in the NHL. But here's the bigger problem with acquiring Jason Robertson specifically and not getting a #1 center somewhere else in free agency or via another trade. If you acquire Robertson, lose Larkin, and then end up with no true Larkin replacement, we'll be bad enough not to make the playoffs. But, we'll also be not quite bad enough to be in contention for a top 3 pick next year. We'll put ourselves out of contention for a Jaxon Jacobson or Landon DuPont when we're picking outside the top 5 in the 2027 draft. By doing so, we'll be stuck in purgatory. We'll be the Detroit Pistons from 2009-2023. Does anyone want to see this? Does anyone have any real confidence that Yzerman will be able to get another top center to replace Larkin this year? If so, who is that guy? The scenario above would be a disaster for this organization and it would turn the Wings into a lifeless, boring team to watch. I dread that we'll get an underwhelming return for Larkin. I dread that Yzerman and Jimmy D will refuse to blow it all up and start the rebuild over. I dread that we'll end up in purgatory like the Pistons teams of the 2010s where on Stan Van Gundy's and Troy Weaver's leadership. I'll continue to shout it from the hilltops that with Larkin requesting a trade, we must take advantage of this and rebuild the rebuild. We have to tank over the next 3-4 seasons to hit the reset button on this failed rebuild. We have to give ourselves the chance to get a true #1 center like a Jaxon Jacobson or at least a top-tier prospect like Landon DuPont in next year's draft. We have to add more high-end, scoring talent to this roster and more scoring depth on the bottom two lines. I dread to think what happens if the scenario above plays out and we don't take advantage of this gifted opportunity to hit the reset button on our failed rebuild.
  12. I won't post this in the World Cup thread because I don't want to get suspended again. I'm not normally an avid football/soccer fan, but I was enjoying watching the World Cup until just now. Looks like I'll be done watching the remainder of the World Cup. **** Donald Trump and **** FIFA for involving him in this. Imagine allowing George Wallace to present the World Cup trophy or Richard Nixon after Watergate to do it. Trump's so corrupt he makes Sepp Blatter look like a saint.
  13. One of the greatest moral and societal crimes of the 21st century has been the rehabilitation of the legacy of former President George. W. Bush. I recently saw a video in which George W. Bush attended the grand opening of the Barack Obama Presidential library. To see prominent leaders and figures like Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and others participate in his rehabilitation sickens me. Would you rehabilitate the image of some of the great war criminals of our time Benito Mussolini or Pol Pot? No, you likely wouldn't. So stop doing it for one of the world's other genocidal monsters, George W. Bush.
  14. On the court, Powell seems to be an equal 3pt shooter and scorer to Herro. He also seems like he'll get attacked less come playoff time, whereas Herro strikes me as another Duncan Robinson in-terms of how teams will attack him defensively. From a financial perspective, their cap hit seems pretty similar. It clearly didn't work for Miami having bother, though that team might have had other, larger problems. Would we be better off and better positioned financially landing Powell than Hero? If the choice was Powell or Herro for Trajan, who do you give the nod to?
  15. It's ironic that people who supported a President in the throws of Alzheimer's disease would questions someone's competency for the job. Reagan wasn't a very smart man to begin with and had little interest in cracking the books and truly understanding public policy. Being a good speaker doesn't necessarily make one smart. It makes you a better conman, as Reagan was, but not smart. Reagan had little intellectual curiosity of the world around him or data that can drive effective public policy.
  16. This is EXCELLENT NEWS! I am elated this happened because this almost certainly guarantees McDavid and will want to leave and not re-sign with Edmonton. Not that I think we would be the team McDavid will want to come to, but it increases the chances he'll be on the open market.
  17. First off Toronto is a dumb organization, who has a repeated history of doing dumb things. So in the event they do something dumb, like pass on Gavin McKenna, you are there to take him. That's highly unlikely, but still probable only because it's Toronto. But let's set aside the idea that Toronto will be dumb and pass on McKenna for a second and be more realistic. The Swedish winger Ivar Stenberg would probably be next on my list of guys I would draft. MSU defenseman Chase Reid is also an intriguing prospect. While this draft lacks a true #1, dominate center prospect, Caleb Malhotra wouldn't be a terrible player to pick at #2. I've seen projections and player comparisons all over the place for Malhotra; comparisons ranging from Nic Suzuki to Anton Lundell to his father Manny Malhotra. Ironically, I think he projects to be a Dylan Larkin like player. If you think he can be your Nic Suzuki though, I think you take him.
  18. Most teams don't usually trade their #1 center who has produced 70 or more points 3 times in his career. How often are players like Larkin on the trade market? You saw what Brady Tkachuk netted and he's a winger, not a center. I think this is a unique situation at the right timing. The timing is right for Detroit (as right as it can ever be in a failed rebuild) in that it allows us to get the top 3 pick we never had under Yzerman. It's right for Dallas because Larkin gives them a good center on a very team friendly deal and gives them cap flexibility to make more moves as needed. It's right for San Jose because it gives them an elite, young, under 28 goal scorer at the wing to pair with Celebrini or Misa for years to come. No garauntees the player you draft at #2 will be as good as Robertson is.
  19. I know 3-way trades don't happen often in the NHL, but I would love to get San Jose involved with us and Dallas on a Robertson trade. Larkin to Dallas, Robertson to San Jose, the #2 overall pick to Detroit. There's no point in having Robertson on this team without a center to pair him with. Who is going to facilitate the offense on the first line and feed him the pick with Larkin gone? Andrew Copp? Marco Kasper? JT Compher? A rookie in Nate Danielson? Michael Rasmussen? Look at the best centers set to hit free agency. Jason Dickinson, Jack Roslovic, Erik Huala, Scott Laughton. Are you kidding me. Why would Robertson want to stay to play here with who we have at center for him. He'll demand a trade and we'll be right back in the same boat. Unless I can use Robertson to get the high draft capital or top prospects I really want so that we can start the rebuild over again, no thanks.
  20. He had one NCAA tourny appearance, so why not offer the interim job to Beilein were he willing to take it? You know Beilein is going to run a clean program. You know he's a good head coach and can work to keep most of our players that May recruited around here. He has familiarity with the university and Warde obviously. He's likely a better coach than Boynton will be.
  21. For the love of God please check this man's text messages and ask his wife about their marriage if he is married lol
  22. Would you want Beilein if he were willing to return? I know he's in his 70s, but if he's still willing to coach, would you offer him the job?
  23. Alan Greenspan died. One of the worst Federal Reserve Chairs in the history of this country. Greenspan, among many others, helped usher in an era of bubbles, deregulation, risky derivatives, speculative trading, short selling, and loose currency. He is one of the bad actors who helped shape both the dot com bubble and The Great Derivatives Crisis of 2008-2009. I have nothing nice to say about Alan Greenspan and the working people of this country would have been better off financially had he never been Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank.
  24. Any interest in giving John Beilein the job for a couple of years while we search for yet another basketball head coach? At least we know Beilein is competent, capable, and scandal free.
