Let me say that I like Jon Ossoff and he would probably crack my top 5-7 candidates list. I specifically like his good governance and anti-corruption stances. He understands the importance of getting big money and lobbyist influence out of our political system and that I can respect and vehemently agree with. He campaigns on substance and not just style, focusing on a core set of issues built around building a better government, not controlled by the wealthy and big corporations. I also think he is smart enough to read the tea leaves and understand there the party is going and move with it. My waaaaaay too early list of who I like for 2028 are as follows . . . UAW President Shawn Fain Comedian John Stewart AOC/Rep-NY Chris Van Hollen/Sen-MD Jon Ossoff/Sen-GA Raphael Warnock/Sen-GA JB Pritzker/Gov-IL

Are you referring to him being Jewish? If so, I don't think that will be a huge problem in a primary. Ossoff voted the right way on defense spending for Israel, voting to reject funding Bibi's war. Progressives in Georgia have had no problem electing him to the Senate either. Also, the narrative that the left/progressive hates Jews when the standard barrier for the left in the US is a Jewish man from Brooklyn is absurd. Are there some on the left, as with the MAGA right, who are antisemitic, yes there are. But I don't think Ossoff being Jewish himself will hurt in the primary. There will be other, non-Jewish candidates who will likely be more pro-Israel/pro-Bibi than he ever would be as President that would have a bigger issue on the Israel/Palestine divide than he would.

I'm sure someone in the universe said it before him, but he's the first politician I remember using the phrase. Where he really excels is in bringing a coalition of people together. Voters of color seem to really like him. Progressives think he's more progressive than he really is. He's center-leftish with some progressive view points, but he's not in the Sanders/Warren/AOC lane of the party. Moderates think he's sensible enough and think he's more moderate than he actually is. He can potentially build a strong coalition of black voters, moderates, and some progressives. He can box out candidates from the center completely and possibly even some from the left with the coalition I think he's capable of building.

I cleaned up some things and factual inaccuracies in your post above.

An arsonist doesn't get credit for putting out his own fire, sorry. Trump started this fire getting rid of the JCOA Iran Nuclear Deal. They he caused chaos, destruction, death, high prices, costly gas with his war on Iran. Then, without getting really anything new in-terms of a agreement, from what's being reported, he cuts a deal with Iran that might orrrrrrrrr might not allow them to have a nuclear weapons program.

It's amazing what happens when you have a ferocious forecheck, score with more than one line, and can goalie games. They did all of that tonight. Bussi played great all night. You do those things and you win Stanley Cups. Must be nice.

I was at least hoping for a good game to close out the series, this was not a good game.

If we acquired Jason Robertson I would then flip him for draft capital or top tier prospects. Ideally, San Jose would want Robertson to pair with Celebrini. The long and short of it is, the rebuild failed and we need to hit the reset button on it.

Growing up, my mom often watched the Today Show. Gene Shalit was often on there as the resident movie reviewer and critic. I didn't know he was still alive to be even be able to pass away. He was 100. What a good life.

At 30 years old I would like to think that not only is he in his prime, but he has a solid 3-5 years left in it.

Agree with all of this. I don't think Larkin straight up for #2 overall is asking too much. Considering the number of top 3 picks that don't end up with careers as successful as Larkin's has been, I think it's a fair valuation. Considering Larkin is still in his prime and on such a team friendly deal, this also makes it a fair valuation.
-
He got the #16 overall pick AND Alex Tuch who had previously had a 50+ point season. Take away Tuch from the trade and I'm sure Buffalo could have asked for a higher pick if Vegas had one to give. I presume Tuch was added in because pick #16 by itself wasn't enough.
-
When Eichel was traded to Vegas, Buffalo got Tuch AND a first round pick back in return. I think the trade proposal with San Jose would just be Larkin straight up for the #2 overall pick. Not adding a quality NHL ready player to the deal, like an Alex Tuch, changes the asking price I would think. Thus, making our ability to get the #2 overall pick for Larkin that much more feasible.

I'll shout it from the rooftops that San Jose is the trade partner I want and the #2 pick overall is what I want. This rebuild has been a failure. Nibbling around the edges and adding mid-level players or trading Larking for another version of Larkin won't cut it. They need to make wholesale changes this roster. That could mean gutting it and doing a full scale rebuild to get a true #1 center, capable of producing 90+ points in a season. It could also mean continuing to try and win now, but bring in 3 full lines of scoring depth, more forechecking and toughness to make it more of a Carolina, Florida, or Vegas type of roster. If they simply trade Larkin for another NHL player on his level or do a 2 for 1 trade where that get two players, not quite as good as Larkin, but equal to him combined, that will keep us stuck in neutral. You have two choices, team tank and rebuild or team revamp but keep trying to win. I'm on team tank and rebuild at this point. I don't think there are enough players out there via a trade, free agency, or in our farm system to add the scoring depth we need to the second/third lines. Nor are there enough out there to add the forechecking skill and toughness we need. Nor are we going to goalie our way to the playoffs and a Stanley Cup anytime soon.

85 point players don't grow on trees. Given that they are ready to start winning now with Celebrini, a skilled, scoring winger like DeBrincat may be the perfect partner for him. I'm certainly open to trading DeBrincat because I want to (and think we need to) rebuild the rebuild at this point.

Woke ass Bud Light on display at The White House for Trump's 250% Inflationfest celebration.
-
I'm going to quote this a second time to ask this question. If an under 30, in his prime, 80+ point winger like DeBrincat isn't worth the #2 overall pick, what player or type of player is?
-
Are you interested in hitting the reset button on the rebuild? If so, do you want Cat around for the rebuild or would you rather maximize your draft capital and chances to tank?
-
41 goals, 40 assists, and 81 points overall. They'd be happy with who they draft at #2 producing 80 points or higher. 80 point plus players don't grow on trees. He'd be a perfect compliment at the wing for Celibrini. The only reason I'm trading DeBrincat is because he doesn't fit the timeline for rebuilding the rebuild. We're going to need to tank for the next few years and there's no sense wasting his prime here and risking the chance of being more competitive than we should.

In the two years since October 7th attacks the US has sent and spent nearly $32 billion on one country and one country alone. Not $32 billion adding dental coverage to Medicare, providing free reading glasses to low-income folks, or having universal pre-k or free lunches for kids. No, we've spent $32 billion propping up a despot, wannabe dictator and fighting a war on his behalf in Iran and supporting his broader combat offences in Lebanon and Yemen. A person who attempted to misuse power to stay in office through his judicial branch. A person who killed tens-of-thousands of civilians in a genocide, people who had nothing to do with the October 7th attacks themselves. That's why people care and decide their vote on it. Just as they did during the 2006 midterms when the Iraq War catastrophe happened.

I'd probably do this given the two 1st round picks + Stramel. But I don't know that Minnesota has their 1st this year, so we'd be getting a 27 and 28 1st. I'd rather get more capital for now and next eyar. Wings, Wild, Sharks. A trade the assures the rebuild of the rebuild gets started. Too little? Too much? Wings Get: 2026 #2 and #20 overall picks from San Jose + 2027 1st round pick from Minnesota + Charlie Stramel/C and Lirim Amidovskil/RW from Minnesota Wild Get: Dylan Larkin Sharks Get: Alex DeBrincat

Yeah, they're not firing Yzerman. He's getting the Jim Develano treatment and taking over some other role, like Team President, if a new GM is ever brought in.
