  1. Man… this is depressing. Good thing it’s June.
  2. I get the point in the Justices, starting with Bush v Gore. But it’s worth considering what would have happened had it went the other way. Would the matter have been resolved in time ? Would the result have changed? What kind of crisis would have resulted and how do the politics of that play out. Gore did the country a great service, one that deserved some kind of award when he graciously gritted his teeth and went along with it. And you can’t assume that Gore would have had two picks. First he would have needed to be re-elected. Second, that means just one pick, Rehnquist’s replacement. O’Conner wanted to retire and was distraught that it looked like Gore might win, she wouldn’t have done that then. And she purposefully waited until his re-election to announce he retirement as she didn’t want to appear like she voted the way she did to get a favorable outcome for her preference on a successor. If Gore won a second term she wouldn’t have retired. And add to that if you have a Gore presidency then it’s likely things swing back to a GOP presidency in 2009. Basically my point is you can’t assume the resignations happen the way they do. Maybe an Obama presidency doesn’t happen until 2016 election.
  3. It's 7-2 or 8-1 and Roberts wants it 9-0. The opinion is written, they just have to "fill in the commas and ****" (Get Shorty reference).
  4. I think people you describe do exist but the one difference is say they aren't voting for Trump, but did... and will. They just hide it.
  5. which is a good indicator of what the decision is. Can't make the boss mad before he goes live in front of the spotlight with no script. But... I guess being entirely objective, even if they don't deserve the benefit of the doubt as they have no credibiliy, in a vaccum I think waiting is the right call. If you have a major candidate for POTUS with a pending decision that affects them, then don't unnecessarily influence the political process by releasing a decision right before the debate. Of course, they could have released this months ago and it's not an issue, different subject.
  6. and Avila at least seemed to have a plan, if not executed well. Smith was all over the place. Maybe that was Ilitch interfering.. mainly speaking to the Juan Gonzalez trade. You had a semi decent block of younger talent after 1999. At the time I liked some of the players he brought in, like Cedeno and Meluskey. Maybe Ilitch and John McHale were too busy building Comerica Park to really notice what was going on with regard to teh baseball side of operations... or just figured they would sink/swim with it. I don't recall when McHale left the org. Anyone remember? Didn't he leave to work in the Commissioner's Office? Was that a soft firing, enable him to leave with dignity with a cushy job?
  7. My wife was getting mad at me for constantly playing them... then there's a reel about the wife being mad.... then she start getting it on her feed related to topics she's interested in.... and laughing. I think the Oilers girl was jealous. Took away her heat.
  8. I'm not watching. Wife and I are catching up on X Men and Deadpool movies for what's coming out next month, plus The Bear has 10 episodes out.
  9. I'm fascinated at the way that thing exploded and her ability to remain anonymous. I suspect some late night show will make a big reveal out of it. Not since Tiger King has this country been so united.. (as the meme said).
  10. yeah I get it. And I believe the pitcher does have to wait for the hitter, they can't get the ball back and throw it at 12 seconds remaining if the hitter isn't "ready". I would just amend the rule to say that by 7 seconds or whatever, the pitcher is free to start their motion and the hitter has the responsibility to be ready. but maybe it's a solution in search of a problem, is this happening all the time?
  11. the rule to me seems backwards... as far as I'm concerned it's a "pitch clock" not a "batters clock" and the hitter can do whatever they want but the pitcher is throwing, ready or not. They are the ones with the ball in their hands.
  12. I don’t disagree. But right now we are in the build phase. And Skubal is that ace. I’ve said multiple times I am against trading him unless it’s for ML all star quality talent. No prospects.
  13. Today I got stuck in the concourse behind 3 women walking slo ly, side by side taking up the whole pathway, wearing jerseys by Ordonez, Zumaya, and Inge. Suddenly it was 2008.
  14. Refresh my memory. Why is this a bullpen game? Lots of Phillies fans here today.
  15. Skubal gives me the JV and Max hard ass vibes.... they can't trade this guy.
  16. Cookeville is where my family is from. My ancestors have been there since the civil war. What makes C-Ville so great is having TN Tech there so you get that crowd. And they've really changed the downtown area. But if they didn't have that it wouldn't be special. And like everywhere else, what once was land is now a subdivision. But without my aunts and uncles nad cousins... Cookeville wouldn't have any reason for me to be there other than to visit cemetaries.
  17. Crank might be the dumbest person on twitter. Sometimes I wonder if he suffered a head injury because his logic can get so twisted and he doubles down on absurd things.
  18. I’m willing to assume Avila made some foundational improvements to the front office in terms of systems and hirings that didn’t manifest into success at the ML level but were still useful.
  19. Playing hooky for this one.
  20. I never got it either. Seemed to have never worked. I can’t recall an instance where that play was successful.
  21. Seems like during the Leyland/Lamont years they ALWAYS went on contact from 3B.
  22. I enjoy following the gang at NR that I used to soak up to see the path they took in a Trump world that took over the former conservative movement. Guys like Byron and Lowry went one way while Goldberg and Nordlinger went another. I don’t count Kristol in that mix because he seemed to jump sides whereas Jonah and Jay will still stick up for previously held conservative positions. It’s a good sanity check for me.
  23. considering these two moves happened within a day of the season ending it seems obvious he's got something going beyond these two moves.
  24. All an owner can do is hire people and let them do their job and spend when called upon and get rid of those executives when they show to not be doing their job. Has Chris not shown that ability? Yeah, he didnt "go after" Ohtani. Get real. On one hand people are complaining about Baez and his contract and on the other people are complaining about the owner being cheap. The team has made significant behind the scenes improvements and hired expensive people in the front office, the kind of hires that most fans would never know happened, and I throw in Jason Benetti in that conversation. If Chris just wanted to bank the cash from owning an ML team he wouldn't have approved those hires. Take a look at the media guide and you can see who they are.
