I’m just going by what he wrote in his book. He strongly implied that Dykstra and Zimmer were in similar circumstances baseball has put itself in a position not unlike having a bunch of sober alcoholics working in a strip club and just hoping for the best that everybody will be good.

That’s how I feel. My opposition to him is more about how he’s acted in response to it over the decades. Fay Vincent said if he had been upfront with them at the time the punishment wouldn’t have been as bad. I’ve always felt he was more afraid of what else they would find.

You have to look at someone's job to understand the reason they would have documents. The higher level you go then the more likely you routinely use classified information. Therefore the more likely it is you would mistakenly take them home or whatever. A low level person who accesses a file system and takes home documents they have no business having and gets caught with will receive stricter punishment.

I'm glad they didn't sign JD. I like him but this team needs the flexibility of a rotating DH. They need to find out about the guys we have now to see if they are the future.

The RNC doesn't govern. They are not part of the government. They are a function of a political party. The only connection is that they can use elections to elect delegates. But then again.... do they get federal funding? If you select that $3 box on your taxes does that go to the DNC and RNC? If so then I think the government does have a say here in how money is spent.

He wasn't Randy Smith bad. I'd give him a solid C. He probably would have been a good GM 40-50 years ago. That's not a criticism, it just means we're getting old and 40-50 years ago was the 70's and 80s, not the 1940's like it should be. He couldn't clean house up on arrival. He just stepped into a new role with an org he'd been a part of for a long time so all the people here also sort of worked for him already since he was the Asst. GM. Where I would knock him is the FA spending.

Henning called Harris "the kid"? Yes, Avila does get some credit and should. But he also had numerous 1:1 picks and other top 5 slots. And I'm not convinced some guys develop the way they had under a system still run by Avila.

Is Sally Struthers still alive?

If you looked thoroughly at every VP and POTUS after leaving office you’d probably find classified docs. Scraps of papers can be classified. They over classify. It’s what you do with them and when notified that matters. It’s not complicated to figure out.

What an embarrassment

Can’t wait for a MSM story or column about how Biden talking like that is beneath the decorum of the Office while his opponent does his typical thing.

It may not have been a bad story for him but it woud have been a bad story for MLB to have a player directly pay gamblers. Even if it's not you making the bets, the important exchange is the $$, so it's not leap to say Ohtani is gambling, and then you have to find out if it's on baseball, then the Angels. In this regard it's not about who made the bets but who's bank account they came from. That's who is doing the gambling. MLB wants no part of that so they try to make Ohtani the victim of a "degenerate gambler"
-
so we're clear.... MLB can take money from gambling. But players cannot give money to gambling.
-
If it's not Ohtani making the bets then I think what happned was this guy racked up the debts and Ohtani paid it. Then MLB found out and they changed the story and this guy is out.

The Clintons and MacDougals give their regards.

But you aren't defending him....
-
When I am on a road by myself and driving 15 MPH over the speed limit, and a cop sitting in a ditch sees me and gives me a ticket... is he targeting me? What about other people on other roads? There's no victim. Nobody got hurt. If I am parked out front of a store, in the "fire lane", and I get a ticket, but there's no fire.... there's no victim. Nobody got hurt.

it's funny how you say he's guilty and you aren't defending him but you spend all this time defending him.

I love that scene. It's on my rotation of youtube clips to watch. I also like the introduction of Larry, Daryl, and Daryl on Newhart where they will "do anything for a buck" I'm reading James Burrows's book, he directed Taxi, Cheers, Friends, WIll and Grace.... he said the biggest laughs he ever got from a single scene was the famous Driving Test scene in Taxi. He also said Will and Grace was the funniest overall show he did. God, I miss the 3 camera setup with a laugh track. Real theatrical throwbacks.

Sparky! I remember when Tram invited him to ST to sit in with the staff. Good to see him in uniform again.

Like the dudes who say they aren't racist but why can rappers use the N word but we can't? (And they refer to any music by a black person as 'that rap music')

There is no way on God's green earth that MLB will let it be known that Ohtani had a gambling problem if that's what occurred here. Not saying he did, I'm willing to believe that it's simply this guy racked up debts and Ohtani wanted to pay it off for him. But the changing of the stories makes believing that suspect. I just saw a list of the MLB players with the highest endorsement earnings, he was over $60-70M a year. The next guys up were under $10. MLB isn't going to let that type of marketing be tainted. It's not unusual for performers at such a high level to be into gambling to such a degree, we have Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods as examples. I believe the competitive fire that makes them excel at such a level can be triggered by the same things in the brain that a gambling win, no matter how bit or small, delivers. They have to compete, they want to win.
