  1. When I played fantasy baseball in the late 90's/early 2000's, it was a 5 player keeper league. I snagged Helton right before he got good and was a stud for me for a couple of years.
  2. It’s like Jerry Springer when two women are fighting over some loser who just got out of prison.
  3. I admit I didn't have "doomed woke submarine" on my radical right wing bingo card.
  4. The investigators would have been told to stop and if they resisted they would have been fired and made fun of relentlessly via tweet.
  5. at the game last night when Miggy got his hits, there was obviously extended cheering and all that and I started to think about his final at bats. Assuming he doesn't get hurt and makes it to the end, it will be quite a moment to watch. When you look at the ticket availability for his final few games there's a lot of tickets already sold so I expect a good crowd to give him an ovation. Then there's the pitch clock to ruin it. Maybe he will call time and then the P or C will call time as well? And hopefully there's a gentleman's agreement that he gets nothing but cheese.
  6. "well if they made a deal that means everything was much worse and Biden's DOJ let him get off easier than he should have" Jordan will have hearings on the deal.
  7. All of this talk makes me think of the anecdote "I'll let you know" means "I'm not coming"
  8. I could be wrong but my perception is teams have gotten smarter about trading for "can't miss prospects". Seems like when you trade a prospect for a "veteran" to to speak, it rarely works out that the prospect side wins the trade.
  9. yep. Then I'm one beer ahead.... used to not be an issue but now I limit myself.
  10. being early is also kind of rude when you are having events at home... say a birthday party or get together. People are still getting ready and cleaning. Then they have to entertain you.
  11. This photo makes me sappy.
  12. at our DEI meeting last year on this topic some of our colleagues from TX pointed out how this was nothing new and they'd learned about in school their whole lives. I didn't know about it until maybe 6 or 7 years ago. was at a game on the 19th and my buddy said "Oh, today's Juneteenth" and I thought he was goofing around and making it up.
  13. Not lying... I've heard we shouldn't have Juneteenth because "they already have MLK Jr Day" Some lady on our neighborhood page, when someome posted a reminder that there would be no mail "It's called the 4th of July. Honor your country"
  14. THAT'S WHY he's nOT a good ManaGer. He needs to tell them to play harder and not swing at balls out ofthe zone
  15. The 2nd guy in the lineup has to be a punch and judy hitter... "move the runner over', 'bunt', 'give himself up'.
  16. We just started season 3 and it’s a great show but intense.
  17. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the RNC gives in and decides they won’t have debates.

    MAP PR0N!

LA is east of Reno. There was some interesting factoid about Philly but I can't remember what it was.
  19. The only issue I think could sway voters in terms of advertising would be abortion related. Get one with an extreme position on either side of it with an unpleasant sound bite and it could play.
  20. they can make a great ad.... but it won't have an effect. I wager that if you held an election today that the results would be within .09 % difference regardless of who the R nominee will eventually be in 2024. Billions will be spent for nothing. None of the old rules apply anymore. The "sport" of election forecasting and figuring out who's winning and losing, what things worked, didn't work... is over. It doesn't exist anymore.
  21. I like to point out that during the Tigers playoff runs in 2006 and 2011-2014... they only had home field advantage once, and that was because the AL won the ASG in 2006. In 2012 when they went to the WS they were neck and neck with the White Sox to win the division, trailing with about a week to go. Tigers finished 8-2, Sox had a 2-10 stretch near the end to swap around. the reason I say that is to point out that those teams were not as good as many Tiger fans often claim. Making the playoffs 4 years in a row is an accomplishment but you don't get carryover benefits. The 2014 pitching staff was deep, SP wise, but outside of Scherzer, the rest of the guys didn't have what I'd call great years. It wasn't like there was a question on who was the best that year, JV was hurt. It was all Max.
  22. Don't fret.... they just didn't want to pay for his lodging and meals anymore.
  23. I've been reading a lot of astronaut and space books, from the Mercury to Apollo eras. Handball was a very common thing to play for those guys. In fact the only time I've ever seen it referenced is in that context. Was that a big deal in the 60's? Maybe it was a southern thing? These guys had to stay in great shape so I imagine it's an intense game to play.
  24. that was my point. He's had the equivalent of about 3 1/2 full seasons after HS to develop into a major league hitter when you count college, minors, and majors.
  25. Tork had 600 minor league at bats as well.
