  1. Again.... another book reference.... I read a book called The Cloudbuster Nine, which was about the Navy's Pre Flight Training program. It was the type of training that led to the formation of the SEALs. Presidents, Astronauts, and guys like Ted Williams came through this program. It was very tough. When they formed it they reached out to elite coaches around the world, your Bear Bryants, etc. Ted found a home in this program because he found in it the discipline and drive that he required of himself and demanded. His home life growing up was sort of empty, he was a lazy student. But he loved what flying required and became an excellent student which was obviously required to be good at it. And he was very good at it. He wasn't just a pro athlete mugging for the camera for PR purposes. My point is that dedication led to him being a great hitter as a student of the game and I see no reason why he wouldn't have had the same in today's world. Read that book if you love military history and love to read about athletes and training. I thought it was going to be about a bunch of military baseball players, and it was in there, but it was so much more. I think the title is misleading.
  2. I read that book that sort of revisited Ty Cobb and made Al Stump out to be a hack that severely distorted everyone's views on how horrible he was. One thing with Cobb that stood out was he came up with many of the things we take for granted today in terms of gamemanship. At the time it was considered being a poor sport. Even simply taking an extra base if the defense was being lazy. Picking off players who were taking their time going back to the base after a fly ball was caught.
  3. and I think this is happening in a less formal way across the country at the local levels. The deranged lunatics have nothing else to do so they are running for local boards and councils.
  4. That more than anything will bother him the most. His family could die and he’s be more upset at knowing we saw this.
  5. That’s going to leave a mark
  6. I like Presidents who don't get hospitalized for covid
  7. ah, that's right. That was when the Tigers were the visiting team. Forgot all about the lockout!
  8. so remind me why there's a DH today? No game on Friday.
  9. Hillary went to Miller's the weekend before the election. I always bring that up when people say she took the state for granted. I was meeting friends in Hamtramck and got caught up in the freeway closures. I haven't been to Miller's since 2002. It's for sale.
  10. Miggy was already "downgraded" to fifth in the lineup and I suspect they were prepared to go lower but alas, he's been one of our better hitters this year.
  11. Would that be like a fake Detroiter going to Lafayette or American Coney Island? real Detroiters go to Duly's.
  12. Same old same old.... the current generation whines about the ones coming up. My favorite is the complaining about home improvement. Can't find someone? Then quit your job, go to a trade school, and learn to do it yourself. This entitlement philosophy where certain work is for others to do and when you can't find them then it's their problem. You are complaining that others didn't do what you also didn't do.
  13. She's speaking to Fox audiences so....
  14. This seems too good to be true. But I like it. Is there a catch?
  15. I have heard that his food empire, both pizza and distribution, were always cutting edge technology wise. Chris did not just inherit that business. He ran it directly.
  16. Did anybody in the BB/BCS world come out unscathed? I don't think we're going to see any happy endings.
  17. I don't think we'll see any more spinoffs. Jonathan Banks is 75 years old. the only thing I could see is something with Skinny Pete and Badger, like a comedy. But is that heavy enough for Gilligan and Gould? Maybe Jesse.
  18. They can't live with the pretzel logic they wrapped themselves in. "It's murder... but you shouldn't murder someone else to stop that murder but it's the same. Something something"
  19. Those conversations did exist in those states prior to the recent Christian taliban Supreme Court ruling. The ruling made those conversations outdated and illegal. Pro life politicians have no interest in having them and neither do their voters.
  20. A guy on a movie group I am a part of compared BCS and BB to godfather I and II. “Breaking Bad is like The Godfather and Better Call Saul is like The Godfather Part 2. The original is more universal, more digestible. Can attract a bigger audience with more mass appeal. The sequel is deeper, darker, and somehow better than the original. All this to say, what a remarkable accomplishment Better Call Saul is.”
  21. What conversation? That a woman should bleed out for 10 days while a dying fetus is inside of her and our right to life religious but jobs just shrug their shoulders?
  22. I was thinking about that after I posted. The use of that word is very insensitive to the often very difficult position a woman and her doctors face. It’s insulting. Like if you don’t agree with him then you are just a weak person. Get that machismo bullshit out of here.
