  1. Do you think money talked in Brandon Drury's case? Or Mitch Haniger's case? We don't even really know all the specifics of Chafin leaving, but even if it was over money, that doesn't mean that's the case with every other free agent name that gets thrown around.
  2. And again, the other part I never see addressed is that free agents have agency... maybe they did actually try to bring some folks in, but ultimately free agents have free will. They do not have to sign here. We continually hear names like Brandon Drury and Mitch Haniger thrown around, all of whom seemed intent on staying on the west coast, for instance.
  3. 1. They would probably be right in the same soup they are right now. 2. The Rangers wouldn't have the record they have had if they did not have talent from within come up and succeed. Last I checked, they didn't sign Ezekiel Duran and Josh Jung in free agency. Something that really hasn't happened in the Tigers case.
  4. I would add that this doesn't absolve Harris from trying different things to effect a different outcome. But aside from the fact that mediocre free agents aren't exactly guarantees (see Wil Myers, Jordan Lyles), he also didn't have a ton of tradable assets going into this past offseason either. One hopes that the players he acquired, particularly Malloy, turn into some value. After seven years of losing, it's understandable why people are angry about the state of the franchise and wish it could be turned around overnight. Just wish there was a little more recognition that, by any objective measure, the Tigers weren't exactly positioned for a big offseason after 2022... and that has as much to do with the players not playing or playing to their potential as it does the owner or team president
  5. In detail, can you explain which stars analagous to Pudge or Magglio you would have signed this past offseason, and to what terms, and how you would expect that to have effected a change on the overall results? The situation is what it is... it's easy to sit on a message board and talk about bringing in free agents like it's rolling down to Meijer and buying a six pack of Two Hearted Ale, a little harder in reality when free agents have agency and when bringing in the mediocre types require significant overpays.
  6. Those big free agents and Polanco were all on the team when they sucked in 2005.
  7. Yeah, frustrating as he's been, he shouldn't be written off at this point either.
  8. Jace Jung is heating up.... a double and homer tonight!
  9. Some things never change...
  10. What I am failing to comprehend is why he went to such great lengths to both take and avoid returning these specific documents. Stuff as sensitive as these documents. Like, maybe it's just vanity, but man it looks way more nefarious than that.
  11. Really the same as yesterday as well. Sure, Cisnero was Cisnero, but if you cannot put up a major league effort at the plate, you aren't going to win many ballgames.
  12. Big "Ellis from Die Hard" energy here..
  13. Skeptical as I've been at the idea of him getting a call up, at the rate the offense is going, he might make it to the bigs too fast to have that chance anyway.
  14. Kreidler is on rehab in West Michigan at the moment
  15. Some apologies from various media figures are in order as well...
  16. Wait, does Fox really expect Congressman Foghorn Leghorn here to actually, you know, do actual work?
  17. Who you gonna believe? Janet Yellin or this lunatic? I swear, the House Freedom Caucus are the 2008 Detroit Lions of political caucuses.... probably doesn't help to extract concessions when you repeatedly signal over and over again that you'll never vote for any alternative no matter what.
  18. He probably already knew what it was like to be close to home having played in Chicago, fwiw. Nonetheless, there are a multitude of reasons he may not have come back. And despite it being the default assumption, it may not be all about the Tigers or their effort to bring him back.
  19. Maybe, but the morgue likely requires more money (sometimes a lot more) than someplace that is ultimately more desirable. Just ask the KC Royals, who gave an outgeous contract to Jordan Lyles this past offseason.
  20. Money and family are huge considerations, but workplace environment can matter as well. Tork's comments recently about how this year has been much different in the clubhouse than last year and how the clubhouse felt like "a morgue" in 2022 speaks to that. Chafin was a part of that clubhouse last year, on the inside... maybe that left an impression. Just as the vibes around the 2022 team could have left an impression on other free agents as well.
  21. I dont know if it is or isn't. But when I listened to Cody Stavenhagen and his buddy or Evan Petzold and Mark Gorosh bring this up when the bullpen was struggling early on, the default position was that he was there for the taking and the Tigers just didn't do it. And the fanbase largely adopted that line. They don't know that and we don't know that. The tell is that Cody and Evan (who I both respect) all (not entirely unjustified, fwiw) complain about their access to info from the org... and that they don't get much for better or for worse. The absence of access leaves a vacuum which gets filled with these sorts of assertions. But there just isn't anything hard to go off of as far as I can tell.
  22. What on earth does Marcelo Mayer have to do with Andrew Chafin or his agency on the market?
