Not really.

Occasionally they will consider something like that, as long as it doesn't significantly impact the timeline or progression they are aiming for.

In all the years I've talked to front office folks about players/prospects, I've never seen them have the concerns over log jams, roster crunches, players being blocked, promotions, etc. These are concerns of fans and I've yet to see front office type stress over any of it....they are manufactured "problems" for the most part. Priority prospects get handled first....this goes with season-opening roster construction and in-season player movement. If a priority prospect needs a specific assignment, they get it....end of story. When the team decides to promote -- for the purposes of this, let's say McGonigle -- then they promote him, and the underlying decisions are quite black and white or obvious.

A little surprised to see my hometown stepping up with one.

2025 Detroit Tigers General Discussion Thread
microline133 replied to IdahoBert's topic in Detroit Tigers
I think it's far more likely a lot of today's baseball podcasters "grew up" listening to Kevin Goldstein and Jason Parks. That was the model they used and it was wildly successful, so that's probably at least some basis for what they think should be done. -
I've never considered any knuckleball pitcher legit in the minor leagues. A-ball hitters -- even Double-A -- aren't capable of making heads or tails of a knuckleball. They are overmatched by it. Until such time as a knuckleball pitcher not only has success in Triple-A but then in the big leagues, they are always a non-prospect.

2025 Detroit Tigers General Discussion Thread

When Dombrowski was GM of the Red Sox, my favorite party trick out here in New England was texting him and getting a reply....always dumbfounded people. -
Bravo, sir. Definitely a smile in my face reading this. Good for you!

If that happens, I'll be there.

That was a great showing.

State's rights already exist in emergency response support from FEMA. The entire system is designed to be handled at the lowest level possible. If the local municipality or county is overwhelmed, they engage the State for support. If the State becomes overwhelmed by the response (or it exceeds their capability/capacity) they can either appeal to EMAC (basically asking other states for help) or seeking a Federal disaster declaration that allows FEMA to come to the table with additional resources, or both simultaneously. Even once FEMA is engaged because a declaration has occurred, they still cannot act unilaterally and must receive a request from the State to provide support for each requirement. Now, if we want to have a conversation about a lowering of the bar or an increased willingness to issue Federal disaster declarations, that would be a interesting discussion. I've been doing this long enough to remember some requests for declaration being denied because they didn't meet the threshold....I haven't seen one denied in about ten years, though; basically since Sandy. If the goal is to actually push the States to be more self-sufficient in the wake of an event, then let's talk about the threshold for declaration....but we all know it's not actually about creating increased self-suffieciency, but rather being punitive.

And southwest Virginia....the forgotten place in all of the Helene coverage.

I've been working response missions in and around Pulaski County since early October....that post is absolutely correct.

My first thought was Christian Santana....he ended the year on the Development List and maybe there was something with age/identity.

Not directed at you individually, so please don't take this as such.... There is tons of help on the ground in NC....and in VA, and in TN, and in SC, and in GA, and in FL. Any assertion otherwise is complete and total BS. I haven't seen my family in three weeks because I'm on the ground providing support. I know.

Far be it from me to defend the Trump campaign, but this happens in every response event, by every party, and politicians at all variety of levels. Resources are regularly diverted to accommodate VIPs and politicians showing face in the affected area. It's the norm. I think it's stupid, too, but let's not paint this as unique or particularly heinous when it isn't. Save the outrage for other instances.

Players that are gaining notoriety among minor league fans because they are climbing career leader boards with a team (e.g. Workman) are not generally prospects. If they are at one level long enough to pass luminaries like Jamie Johnson, Max St. Pierre, and Deil Scram on career lists, you can save your excitement over a potentially meaningful MLB career.

No, he's not. He has nothing to do with Tork. He's a talented A-ball prospect. -

A good high leverage reliever with two years of cheap control after this year. Oh, and that prospect package isn't elite....the Padres' system isn't as deep as a few years ago. -
2024 Trade Deadline Rumors and Discussion

Unless the Tigers think there's a path to teaching Baty to lift the ball more without sacrificing other things, I'd stear clear. There's generally a reason he's been lapped in the Mets organization. -

I've watched a lot of Mayer. I think he's exceptionally overrated. He's a solid but not plus defender. He has a decent hit tool. He doesn't drive the baseball with any type authority. If the hit tool falters at all when he gets to the big leagues, he's barely an everyday player. I fail to see a carrying tool anywhere in the profile. I wouldn't push for him as a headliner in a deal. -
The: "Can we not do this anymore?" 2024 MLB Draft

Annual reminder.....scouting comps are physical comps, not performance comps.
