The fact that he is a reformed binge drinker from more than a decade ago doesn't mean he's a tea-totaller today. Alcohol abuse patterns take a lot of different forms with wide differences in addiction susceptibility. Not everyone who abuses at some point ends up a deep addict. I see it as just a fun gesture and lot of the gifts are joke gifts. The cost is irrelevant. He easily has enough money to buy an entire winery if he so chooses.
