not only that, but he got shot in the dominican by some gangster.  ortiz does some shady shit but gets away with it because he smiles a lot.

although, if being a happy black dude as opposed to dick allen gets you in the hall of fame, then why isnt sammy in?

Maybe because Sammy isn't black anymore? 😏

It is interesting that ARod is on ESPN and "involved" in the game yet on the outside of the HOF.

I'm fully on board with letting these guys in.  MLB has its own history to deal with and they can't be high and mighty.  They have avowed racists in there, the game itself had racism institutionalized and retiring #47 league wide doesn't change that.

But I'll never relent on the Rose thing.

In all seriousness, I think Sammy's star started to plummet once he got busted for the bat breaking open in that Rays game, and it finally hit the ground after he walked out early on the team in the last game of the 2004 season, leading fan favorite Mark Grace to smash his boombox.

But MLB isn't banning these guys from getting in.   It's the writers not voting for them.  I don't know what they can do about that.    I don't feel bad for them.  They were on their way to the HOF but decided to cheat.  MLB not having a policy on steroids clouds it for sure, but writers can vote or not vote for whomever they want.

Sammy, I'll test anywhere, anytime.  Reporter says ' there's a lab down the street, lets go after the game and what did he say YOU'RE NOT MY FATHER?  or something crazy like that.

And Rose?   From what I have been lead to believe every single clubhouse has it posted, they tell them every single year don't bet on the game.

This new iteration of the board has not had a Rose thread yet. I'd like to think that that is because people have finally seen the light with regard to good ol' Pete. Then one of my closest friends will post something on social media lamenting Rose not having a plaque in the HOF.

Rose lost me when he finally admitted it, the day of another player's HOF announcement - only did it to promote a book coming out the next day and then signed copies of the book AT A CASINO.    You can stuff your sorries in a sack, Mister

everything can be linked to a Seinfeld reference.

I am actually reconsidering Rose in light of MLBs highly hypocritical parnership with gambling organizations.  I know buddha will love that!

I personally put any guy linked to steroids in that I believe would have been even if they were clean like Bonds and Clemens. Both were HOF guys before ever being linked to it so I think just using that resume and throwing out what they did on roids all together would be enough to get in.

For instance if Miggy and Pujols decided to take steroids tomorrow and it helped them suddenly put together 5 dominant seasons and in Pujols case rewrite a bunch of career records like the HR record I wouldn't keep them out when they were eligible because I feel they were HOF to begin with.

I do get though that there is a character clause and its not all about performance so I understand the voters that say no but to me I just more credit to what they did on the field and how great they were at that.

Either way though the precedent has been set with arguably the greatest pitcher and hitter not getting in and that's if you are linked to steroids you can't get in. I mean if they cant get in despite both being at the very least top 10 players of all time your run of the mill HOFer has no shot going forward of getting in if linked to roids/peds.

bonds and clemens wont get in until the next generation of writers outs them in through the back door.  the baby boomers and their preening moralism will need to die first.

By then they won’t be on the BBWAA ballot. They will be on the era committee.

the HOF should do away with their reliance on the writers. This isn’t 1975 anymore.  Some of these voters aren’t even active. They covered the game for a while and now get to vote.

I believe they culled the voter list for the Hall a few years ago, removing those writers who'd been tenured into a voting position even if they hadn't covered baseball for many decades. Now I believe if you haven't covered the game for more than ten years, out you go.

I think Sosa is borderline.  He had a relatively short peak and a 128 career OPS+.  I wouldn't put him in.

I don't know, 600+ homers and three years of 60+ bombs is a pretty big deal. Plus he's got really favorable Hall of Fame standard numbers and JAWS. The only real thing about him that's borderline is his bWAR is 58, although his fWAR is 60.

I'd vote him in. But then, I'd've voted in McGwire, too, who had even better numbers, and when was the last time anyone talked about him and the Hall?
