CMRivdogs Posted August 8 Posted August 8 https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cl7y8zq5xpno Quote Astronaut Jim Lovell, who guided the Apollo 13 mission safely back to Earth in 1970, has died aged 97. Nasa said he "turned a potential tragedy into a success" after an attempt to land on the Moon was aborted due to an explosion onboard the spacecraft while it was hundreds of thousands of miles from Earth. Tens of millions watched on television as Lovell and two other astronauts splashed back down into the Pacific Ocean, a moment which has become one of the most iconic in the history of space travel. Lovell, who was also part of the Apollo 8 mission, was the first man to go to the Moon twice. Acting Nasa head Sean Duffy said Lovell helped the US space programme to "forge a historic path". In a statement, Lovell's family said: "We will miss his unshakeable optimism, his sense of humor, and the way he made each of us feel we could do the impossible. He was truly one of a kind." Quote
oblong Posted August 9 Posted August 9 He was the last of the Titans. First one to go into space 4 times. Only 6 Apollo guys left now. Apollo 13 still holds the record for the farthest distance from Earth due to its emergency free return trajectory loop around the moon. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted September 16 Posted September 16 Hope it was just as peaceful for Robert Redford. R.I.P. Great Actor/Director. Quote

Tigermojo Posted September 17 Posted September 17 In Italy, 70 year old man attempts suicide by jumping from his fourth floor balcony. He lands on his 83 year old neighbor. She died instantly, he has ankle fractures and now faces manslaughter charges. 1 Quote

CMRivdogs Posted September 17 Posted September 17 This goes back to 1962. An episode of the Twilight Zone. Wonderful performance Quote
Deleterious Posted September 17 Posted September 17 I saw this posted on Reddit and assumed Robert Redford was holding the baby. Turns out he is the baby and that is his father holding him. Cancel the paternity test. Quote

Mr.TaterSalad Posted October 11 Posted October 11 RIP Diane Keaton. The Godfather is one of my favorite movies. She gave a great performance as Michael's girlfriends Kay Adams in the film. 1 Quote
oblong Posted October 11 Posted October 11 She was also his wife. One of the top 3 shots of the whole trilogy is the door being closed on her at the end. 1 Quote

IdahoBert Posted October 12 Posted October 12 Sorry to hear about Diane Keaton. Many dear memories of her. I purposely never watched Looking for Mr. Goodbar because I couldn’t stand the idea of what happens to her in the film. Quote
