Any news on Cobb? I believe he comes off the IL on 5/8. Wonder if he will be ready to start rehab by that time? If he ever does become ready, I think that will likely be the end for Maeda

He was pitching to Vierling the other day.

What do you mean comes off the IL 5/8? He comes off when he's healthy. There's no fixed date.

Is that what they are waiting for to drop Kenta?

I mean, they don't even pitch him with a 6-run or 4-run lead.

With a team that uses a bullpen as much as the Tigers do, don't you need all 8 to rotate?    Right now they just have him keeping a seat warm in the bullpen.  Can't get away with that forever.      I don't see Cobb starting as stacked as this rotation is.  Maybe they use him like they've used Montero as a once in a while guy to stretch out Jobe's limited innings, but I can't see a 6 man rotation happening.

I would guess they originally thought that Maeda and Jobe might split some starts, but with Kenta pretty hopeless maybe that does become Cobb for a while - until they see how effective he is or he can win a starting spot for himself.

So this next road trip of 10 games:  three in Houston, four against the Angels and three against the Rockies could be pretty interesting.

Houston has reason to have a real grudge against us and they are a team to contend with, and the Angels and Rockies are doing pretty bad. You have to play the games, but I suppose if we go 1 – 2 at Houston, split with the Angels 2–2 and go 2-1 with the Rockies. that would be a 5-5 road trip. Totally acceptable and within the realm of possibility

To my mind that would be the worst case scenario, but maybe we don’t have to entertain worst case scenarios.

Hunter Brown who has been one of the very best starters in baseball since July pitched for the Astros today which means we get to miss him this week.  A bit of a break there.

So why even call it a 15-day IL? Do they have to keep extending it if he's not ready?

The terminology refers to the minimum. You remove a guy or not any time after the minimum has run, but not before. The idea to enforce a minimum is so teams don't play roster games trying to stash someone who isn't really injured or other abuses. The relatively long minimum means you aren't going to put the guy on the list unless you are pretty sure you really can't use him for a couple of weeks. The only shorter period allowed is the relatively recent rule for concussions. You get a 7 day minimum there but entering and leaving concussion protocol has its own separate set of rules.

AJ seems to get them fired up against Houston as well.

The Rockies are 4-23!  That must be fun for their fans.

It’s a great place but a strange place to have a baseball team given what the elevation does to the game. Maybe we can get a four home run game out of Tork.

The worst case scenario would be even worse than that—remember how the ‘84 team went to Seattle on top of baseball history at 35-5, and then got swept by the 20-24 Mariners? That started a 4-8 skein that “dropped” us to 39-13, rendering us a mere .750 team. Horrors! 😉

But yes, your scenario is exactly what I landed on as the minimum acceptable result of the western trip would be.

And they’re seriously thinking of putting a team in Salt Lake, too. They sit at 4,300 feet. That’ll be fun, too.

5-5 wouldn't be asking for much. I say we'll go 7-3. I mean....All We Do Is Win...🎶🎶

3-0 @ Rockies
