I was just gonna ask if you all think signing Framber means Skubal is gone before the season starts? Or does Harris try running it with Framber and Skubal and see how it goes? Me personally, I hope he gets traded (been saying that all season). But curious on your thoughts on that.

Hard to say, but a team trading for him would have wanted to avoid arbitration, so something could happen now.

If Skubal wins (which I think he will), there will be no baseball next year. Small market teams will NEVER be able to compete again.

idle talk this afternoon on radio that losing the arb case would motivate the Tiger to move Skubal to they would have the money to add enough to counter his loss. I'm just the messenger here.....

I could see this. I think the real argument is going to be between the two sets of owners, the players union is just going to be along for the ride.

And while it never crossed my mind about any player but the outcome of the arbitration hearing really affects his value as trade stock. It just seems like if the Tigers win, he would get a bigger return in a trade? Not that I want that, I would prefer if the Tigers had the money to extend him. If not, i want to see an entire season of Skubal and Valdez

Good points but I don’t think the Dodgers care about $13M either way.

My worry is the Tigers business plan is to trade Skubal if they lose. Having to pay Skubal what he's asking may not fit into their payroll. Players are overhead in sports. At least, for short sited owners.

The fact that they just committed 38.5AAV to Valdez means an extra $10M could become more significant. But who knows?

I would be surprised if Skubal loses in arbitration. Back to back Cy Young awards? Comp that, Detroit.

OTOH, if the Tigers are not willing to dig into the couch cushions to find $10M for one year to keep together a potential WS staff, then what are we all here for?

I think Skubal will lose his arbitration case based on the fact all pitchers making more were only able to do that as a free agent with 30 teams bidding for their services and Skubal does not have that but has been offered a very healthy raise of over 50 %. 

If Skubal does win then arbitration is very damaged going forward and will add the labor difficulties. Perhaps leading to a more team friendly arbitration process or none at all in exchange for a salary floor without cap. Just guessing.

Sasaki/Valdez looks really nice to me. Not too far off from Skubal/Valdez. Not to mention the other pieces we'd get as well...... I'll take it. Remember, Sasaki last year had a 75 grade from Baseball America..... thats litearlly one point from a perfect prospect. If he pitches like he did in the playoffs all year long..... sheeeeeeeeesh.
