Sorry to hear about Chet, but glad to hear that Don Kelly is getting a chance, even though there are few pluses in this world without a corresponding minus with the previous manager losing his job, but it’s a manager’s job to be fired eventually or to move on.

yeah, I forgot about them.  Hernandez was certainly a star but also kind of a "one year wonder", so not as much impact.

Willie had a few really good years but 1984 set expectations too high. After all, he won the Cy Young Award and the MVP Award that year. Unrepeatable.

Yes, he was a good reviever for several years, but 84 was the only year you could say he was a star.  I don't think he deserved either the Cy Young or MVP though.  When Verlander won both the Cy Young and MVP, he earned both of them.

I generally don't think a pitcher should get the MVP (because pitchers have their own award), but if you allow pitchers to win the MVP then Verlander deserved it.

Willie was an All Star for a few years, too. That screwball.....

I think he made the allstar team in 85 and 86 based on reputation.  You could make a case for 85, but in 86 he wasn't even that good anymore.

On the official MLB site, the Tigers pitcher for the second game is still “to be determined.“

My guess is if Mize goes at least 7 innings, we'll have Montero pitch. If Mize lays an egg and the BP is used really heavy, we'll get Skubal.

He's gonna take the mound wearing a "Eyes Wide Shut" mask.

0% chance Skubal pitches. They only have Montero for this day, he's pitching.

I don't know this for sure but I'd bet Skubal is in Detroit today resting for tomorrow.  Teams often do that for the SP when there's travel after a night game.

I think theres a small chance of Skubal pitching the 2nd game for 2 reasons....Mize will go deep in game one. And...it'll be a Tiger blowout win and we'll only use mopup relievers. With the Tigers not officially naming Montero the game 2 SP, you just never know.

They wouldn't do that to Skubal.  He is a man of routine and already knows when he's going to pitch.

And Skubal is listed as tomorrow's starter.
