It is a demonstration of good baseball late in the season against a nominal "good" team that had some mojo reasons to want to play us hard. They collapsed and we did the opposite. Quote

IdahoBert Posted Wednesday at 07:58 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:58 PM Tigers didn’t score their first run until the fourth inning in the first game and only scored in the 10th of the second game. It was really nice not to have nail biting suspense this time. Quote
lordstanley Posted Wednesday at 08:14 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:14 PM (edited) Tigers sweep the Astros who are now 6 games back of the Tigers. Philadelphia just finished sweeping Seattle who are now 7.5 games back of the Tigers. Toronto dropped 2 of 3 to last place Pittsburgh and is now 1.5 games back of the Tigers. Cleveland, having only managed a split so far against Arizona, is 10.0 games back of the Tigers. Only the Royals have kept pace with the Tigers but the Royals are 9.5 games back of the Tigers and verging on irrelevance. Edited Wednesday at 08:14 PM by lordstanley 1 Quote
papalawrence Posted Wednesday at 08:18 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:18 PM Morton in his post game interview - he might be the most chill guy to don a Tigers uniform. Very grounded person. Glad Harris grabbed him in the final minutes of the deadline Quote
chasfh Posted Wednesday at 08:49 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:49 PM I still feel pretty good about this post. 2 Quote

For clarification, I was whining about being old. When I think of Morton being old as a player, but 30 years younger than me that doesn’t seem so bad. But when I think of myself being born 30 years after the end of World War I, which might as well be ancient history, now that makes me feel old. I thought I was not being very sharp and the point. One of my friends know I'm adamant about the difference between "obtuse" and "abstruse", and he always uses the former to mean the latter, and I make a show of getting all mad about it, and we have a good laugh. But yeah, he's still a **** about it. 😁 Quote

lordstanley Posted Thursday at 12:41 AM Posted Thursday at 12:41 AM (edited) So Morton has made 4 starts for the Tigers now, going 6 innings in 3 of them and giving up 1, 6, 0 and 2 runs. Total of 22 1/3 IP, 3.63 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 29 Ks. He has had only one bad inning, no? Edited Thursday at 12:42 AM by lordstanley Quote

And I think Morton indirectly makes the bullpen stronger by freeing up Melton to get in relief innings for now instead of being used as a starter. Which in turn means Melton might be available as a starter come playoff time, if Hinch so chooses. Quote
chasfh Posted Thursday at 01:53 AM Posted Thursday at 01:53 AM I don’t see us starting Melton in the postseason if we don’t start him for the rest of the regular season. Quote
