A combination of 17 Tiger wins and Houston losses gets us a 1st round bye? Right now Toronto is 1/2 game ahead of us and they have the tiebreaker. So they're a game and half up. The division seems pretty safe, but yeah, having a bye and home field advantage would be nice. At least for the ALDS. Yeah, it does... A combo of 17 with the Astros does get a bye, but the Mariners or Rangers could pass them. Quote

In either scenario they are the AL Central champs and having nothing else to accomplish after 11 wins. Nobody will refer to them as the “outright” champions or anything but the champions if they happen to have the same record. They have earned the title by the basis of the rules in both scenarios. 1 Quote

While I don't disagree with you in principle, I personally still value outright division titles and would not consider a team with a tie for the best record and the tiebreaker advantage as having won the division title, irrespective of whether that's considered rational anymore. In any event, as Lee says, I'm an old ****, applying the magic number to an outright league or division title is the way I learned it was done, this is the way I like to do it, and this is how I am going to continue to do it. In the meantime, enjoy another picture of a Detroit Tiger wearing this morning's magic number. Edited yesterday at 05:01 PM by chasfh Quote

The reason I find this so frustrating, how bad this team is right now is that they had a great first half and had plenty of pixie dust sprinkled all over McKinstry, Baez and Mize. The time to strike was NOW. The Twins of 2021 or Orioles of 2023 probably thought they had long runs of winning wrapped up and look a them now. Doing next to nothing at the trade deadline was pure incompetence. No guarantee they repeat the first half of this year. They puckered up their ass cheeks and barely did anything. Trading for projects and injured guys that might not even play this year. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. Now they're one of the bottom third teams in baseball. ♫We asked for Mojo Nixon. They said "well, he don't work here". We said 'you don't got Mojo Nixon then your store could use some fixin'. We got into her car, away we started rollin' I asked 'how much you pay for this?' She said 'Nothin', man it's stolen. Punk Rock Girl, you look so wild, let's have a child, we'll name her Minnie Pearl. Just you and me, eating fudge-banana swirl, just you and me, yeah, we'll drive around the world, just you and me, Punk Rock Girl♫ Quote
Tenacious D Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago We were spoiled and perhaps deluded with the first 100 games. And it was fun. But this is a very young team and these guys are still developing. Whatever happens this season is a bonus. Next season is when we should push our chips in. I’ll be disappointed if we don’t approach the roster creation that way this offseason. Quote

Too many guys either hurt - Brieske, Gunether, Olson, Jobe, Foley, Lange , Madden, or pitching like the DL is their likely next stop - Hurter, Flaherty. The extra starting depth we thought we had at the end of 23/24 (Manning, Wentz, Faedo) has evaporated to thin air. The pitching staff is last year's Lion defense. I think most teams are in a similar place. Hard to believe, but home field is still there for the taking. Can you imagine how thin pitching staffs will be post expansion? Quote
