chasfh Posted September 17 Posted September 17 (edited) Would someone please change the thread title to something other than "Guardians pound Tigers"? 😉 Edited September 17 by chasfh 1 Quote
chasfh Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Will Vest's various splits are very weird and mostly not good. The salient stat here is sOPS+ at the end. (sOPS+ is his OPS+ in that particular split versus league average of 100.) Quote
kdog Posted September 17 Posted September 17 The Tigers are a max 90-92 win team. They were never 15 games better than Cleveland. I expect them to clinch this very deliberately. It will be annoying and stupid. Seattle is on a hot streak but I would like to hold them off for the bye. Quote

That's true, but if they don't win, they'll always be the team that blew a 15 game lead. Quote

theroundsquare Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Show me a team that wins when it allows 4 runs or fewer, and I'll show you a team with a poor offense . . . Quote
oblong Posted September 17 Posted September 17 I got my playoff tickets yesterday. The wild card round seemed to be an afterthought. Quote

I think if the Tigers lose the division they stand a good chance of missing the playoffs entirely. Currently Cleveland is 2.5 out of a WC spot. Quote
lordstanley Posted September 17 Posted September 17 The '64 Phillies collapse was famous and talked about when I was growing up. They blew a 6 game lead with 12 to play. So blowing a 5.5 game lead with 11 to play would be remarkable enough, let alone a 15-game lead in the 2nd half of the season. Quote

The one I remember living through, that benefitted us, obviously, was the 1987 Blue Jays. They pretty much had to lose all 7 of their last games for us to have a chance - and then they did. Great slide, Bill Madlock ! I remember that last weekend vs. the Blue Jays. Tigers had to sweep. Friday night Scott Lusader hit a HR and made an incredible diving catch Saturday Jim Walewander scored the game winning run from 2nd on a base hit in extras Sunday - Larry Herndon's solo HR was the only run of the game The Tigers and Blue Jays played 7 times in the last two weekends. Jays won the first 3 in Toronto, Tigers won the last game in TO and then swept them at home. All were 1-run games. That was incredible. It's Division-Or-Bust this time. Tigers can't get swept here. They just can't. Edited September 17 by Motor City Sonics 3 Quote
