We're having problems scoring runs so this wouldn't be a good time to play Jung. Maybe use him for depth but we have a few options for 3rd base already on the team. McKinstry. Ibanez or Javy can all play 3rd base.

Jung has been hitting well in Toledo.

I get it.  You play 162 and it shakes out the way it shakes out.  Games in late Sept. are the same as games in Mid June. My use of the phrase is more about the excitement level of charging up vs falling down.  It takes the steam out of the excitement when after a big lead you are losing and have to rely on other teams losing to guarantee your spot instead of keeping the momentum.  It's been an uninspired week so far and going from a first round bye to probably getting bounced out in 2 games like HOU last year puts a big damper on what's been a great 56 weeks of baseball for our team.

Yeah, I hear you, but I've come to conclusion that the "being hot going into playoffs" thought that's prevalent among folks who talk about it has become kind of a cliche.  I "feel" (not based on any research :)), that this isn't always the case.  It's no different than how, during the season, teams are on a prolonged skid and then it suddenly turns around.  We've seen that a lot this year.

Now, on the other hand, it is hard to feel much positivity when the recent results have been so bleak.

AI summary: you never know.

I do too.  I brought it up before and it was said Dickerson said it works more often than not.  I don't see it.

It certainly doesn't seem it's worked much in the second half. But that's probably just vibes. Then again little has worked in the second half and that isn't just vibes.

Probable starter for Saturday is Joey Wentz for the Braves. I think that gives the Tigers a chance. Of course with Kieder starting for Detroit it could be a 12 to 11 game. Just hope the Tigers have the 12 runs.

I don't mean it in the sense of predicting playoff success.  I agree it's a crapshoot and all of that. Just more about the vibe at the current time and enjoying the end of a great season.  It's hard to not think of this team not having a bye in the first round as a failure given where they were during the season.

Right, The Book by Tom Tango and others showed that winning streaks are not predictive of future performance.  Getting hot in playoffs may be the key to winning the World Series, but how a team does in the last week or two of the regular season is not predictive of playoff success.

The last few weeks it seems if a team comes into a series doing something really the Tigers have been wholly incapable of reversing the trend. The A's have been hot since the All-Star break and sweep the Tigers. The Mets come in hot on offense and destroy the Tigers pitching in two games. The White Sox come in with an offense that had scored the 5th most runs in MLB since the break and clobber two of three Tiger pitchers. The Indians come in shutting every down that is what they do to the Tigers. That is what happens to bad teams and for the last few weeks that is what the Tigers are. Now the Braves come in after scoring a bushel of runs. Would be a good time for the Tigers to play like a playoff contender and cool the Braves off.

Isn't this where the former Tiger has a career day?  7 innings of 1 hit ball?

When I saw that we were already onto the second page of a game that’s five hours away I was worried that something catastrophic happened or that something good happened like the whole Cleveland team had been banned for betting.

I used up all my lucky t-shirts and lucky underwear in the Cleveland series, without success. I may need to watch this one in the buff. Except I'll be on rapid transit for the first few innings and that won't go over well there.

I've gotten a lot of free chick fil a sandwiches this year, including 2 that I never redeemd as I didn't know there was a time limit.

If you are at the game and they score 5, open the app with location services on and they give you the reward.

If you wear them inside out that should reverse the luck.
