chasfh Posted September 25 Posted September 25 (edited) Sigh … I’m out … I’ll keep it on the iPad but I'm disengaging for the moment. Mental health thing. Edited September 25 by chasfh Quote

Makes them overly vulnerable to when a team pitches well and doesn't make many. IIRC this was Tork's whole problem last year - he had to go back to Toledo to basically learn to cover more of the plate. But where did he develop that habit of being too selective in the 1st place - the Tiger org. And in fact early in his career Hinch always stressed Tork had to "find pitches he could drive". OK that's true as far as it goes, you do have to hit the mistakes. But what do you do when the mistakes are not there in quantity? Is the Tiger hitting philosophy flexible enough to produce hitters that are competitive against good pitching and don't just beat up on the bad? "Command the zone" is a two way street for hitters. You have to let the balls go, but you also have to put strikes in play - at least after strike one, even if they don't happen to be HR potential level mistakes. Seems like that has happened half a dozen times the past 2 weeks. Keep it close? Jason said that too. Acting like the Tigers would be able to score 2 more runs this game to even tie it? Hint....wasn't gonna happen anyway. Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted September 25 Posted September 25 (edited) Vest did about as good as I could hope there. Go ahead and send Montero back to Atlanta with Morton. Edited September 25 by monkeytargets39 Quote
Tenacious D Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Damn you, first half Tigers, for lulling me into a false sense of happiness and security. This is going to leave such a bad taste in Tiger fans mouths that they’ll likely get booed on Opening Day. Quote

gehringer_2 Posted September 25 Posted September 25 (edited) another typical Flaherty outing. Good WHIP, good K rate, 6+ ERA. Edited September 25 by gehringer_2 Quote

I guess we have that to hang our hats on. They....kept it interesting. If you have a torrid summer fling with a hot co-ed but you broke up after Labor Day, 10 years later will you be able to put the ending out of your head and just remember the good times? Probably if it was an amicable breakup, like if the Tigers lost a pennant race that was close and hard fought the whole way. But this collapse is the equivalent of not only her breaking up with you, but doing so after cheating on you with some loser dude. Hard to erase and move past that. 1 1 Quote

Tenacious D Posted September 25 Posted September 25 This is the most difficult season since 2003. And that includes the JaCoby Jones era. Quote

Last night they struck out 19 times, which means only 8 guys hit the ball into an out. They had 5 hits, so there is that. They swing at too many bad pitches, and don't swing and hit the ones they should. That's not a very good hitting philosophy no matter when it is in the season. Wee Willie would say, hold my beer. IdahoBert Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Cleveland is changing pitchers with two outs to pitch to Dingler? The way this team is going they could send a position player out there and it wouldn’t make much difference. Quote
lordstanley Posted September 25 Posted September 25 11 losses in 12 game. 8 straight losses overall. 5 straight losses to Cleveland. 18 teams in baseball have a positive run differential. Cleveland isn’t one of them, they are minus 4 on the season. Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Well I’ve turned $5 into $20 trying to will the Guardians into losing. Quote
UCFKNIGHT Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Detroit's three pitching coaches have also lost their way in dealing with the current pitchers on this roster. How many runs has Joey Cora's bad coaching decisions cost the Tigers this season? Quote
IdahoBert Posted September 25 Posted September 25 I’m not angry. I’m not fed up, but I feel worn out. There are, honestly, greater things going on in this world than the fate of a ball club can make up for. To paraphrase Bogart‘s character from Casablanca: "Ilsa, I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of a baseball team doesn’t amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world.” I’m glad for the good that the team gave me this year regardless of how things turn out and I’m glad for the camaraderie we have here. And I guess that’s enough payback to make up for this hill of beans of a crazy world we live in. 3 2 Quote
motownblues Posted September 25 Posted September 25 It's going to take more than one season to recover from this. Quote
