1776 Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Disappointing game. I don’t see this series going beyond tomorrow. Quote
papalawrence Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Judge just hit a HR and that game is 6-6. He is 11-21 this post season and media is blaming him. 1 Quote

IdahoBert Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Maybe they’ll win tomorrow. Then go back to Seattle, so there’s still a chance… I can’t help but think there’s something more than statistical regression going on here. But I’m not particularly well qualified to assess what that is. Quote
holygoat Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Oh, they wait until they're down 7 in the bottom of the 9th to string some hits together. FOH... Quote

New York is the biggest DMA and the Yankees are the bigger team within it. They are the symbol of baseball as a sport throughout the world, and more people in the US identify as Yankee fans, rightly or wrongly, than with any other team. It sucks and it's never gonna change, but lemonade, it also makes seeing them lose that much sweeter. Quote
papalawrence Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Lately I've been thinking that a percentage of Aug 2024 to Aug 2025 was a mirage. Harris helped put together a Giants team with several short term contracts, and they unexpectedly won 107 games in 2021. They lost to the Dodgers in the NLDS. The next year the Giants went 81-81. They've been sub .500 since. Maybe Steve Phillips is right, typically a contender needs an everyday superstar. Cleveland has Ramirez. KC has Whitt Jr. Detroit does have Skubal, but Greene is the only position player that is in the "star" convo. Teams win without a superstar. Takes plenty of good fortune. Even with a superstar. Now watch the Tigers win the next 2 Quote

Ramirez is only an 850 OPS - that's borderline "great hitter", but his worst month was 715 and he has virtually no platoon split (being a SH helps there but is still no guarantee) - so he always shows up and he's a threat against all pitching. The Tigers absolutely are missing that. Torkleson has probably been the most consistent Tiger hitter, but he's not a good enough hitter overall to carry things. The rest of them either are slump prone or have big platoon splits - making them neutralizable when needed. Quote

It seems a lot of teams are missing that, even ones with more stars. There were so many extended losing streaks this year, even amongst the top tier teams. Maybe hitting (in general) is still adjusting to the fact that most every team has pitchers that throw 99mph and/or have a 2500+ spin rate. It has become a different game. I heard Trout talk about this. Edited October 8 by papalawrence Quote

Two reasons: (1) I don't ever, ever want to have to contemplate a ballplayer's ass, for any reason; (2) taking a dump is the exact equivalent of taking a ****, and I don't want to have to contemplate that during ballgames, either. Just terrible all around. Quote

It might have started out as something gross, but now it is just a name fans associate with Raleigh. I don't think most fans think of him taking a **** when they hear his name. Quote
tiger2022 Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Ron Mexico was the worst nickname. It was for Michael Vick and he got it because he had an std and went to a clinic but didn't want anyone to know who he was so he gave that as his name. The NFL even banned the name for personalized jerseys from their site Quote

I sure do, and I can’t be the only one on the planet that occurs to. I wonder whether his teammates call him “big ****ter” and they just sanitized it for public consumption. Quote
