I would really like to establish a "Japanese Midwest" connection for the Tigers.

Where they could actually be considered a possible destination. I don't like getting shut out of this pipeline.

We have a selling point in that Michigan has far superior weather than the west coast.

I think the only way the Tigers sign a good free agent is if some pitcher is not happy with his offers and signs a one year show me deal with a team with a good pitching coach and a pitchers park.  Michael King?

I don't think King will go for a 1-year.

If he is not happy with the long term offers he gets (or doesn't); I think some team will be happy to give him a shorter contract (3-year) at a high AAV with opt outs.

Plus he costs a draft pick. Who would want to sign him to a 1-year and also lose a draft pick?

I think it would only be a third round pick.  However, I understand your point.  Somebody might do that, but probably not Harris.

if Cubs are thinking about moving Hoerner, I would be all over that. Move him back to SS; he has the approach Harris wants. Because he lacks power, he won't get a huge FA contract going into 2027, so maybe you could sign him long term and move him to SS or 2b as needed.

don't know what Cubs need. Mize also under control for one more year. Carpenter could replace Tucker's offense.

I would be shocked if the Cubs traded Nico. He’s been on a Hall of Fame-level run the last four years and he’s one of their most popular players. But man, what a pickup that guy would be. Not sure what we would end up doing with Torres, though.

Jansen had a 2.4 WAR and 57Ks in 59 innings last year with 29 saves. Seems to still have some left in the tank at age 38.

0.6 WAR and 4.0 FIP. Don’t mind it so long as $6 mil or less.

Assuming no more moves and good health, rotation would be Skubal, Flaherty, Olson, mize, Anderson.

Locks in pen would be Vest, Finnegan, Jensen, Melton (or swap with Anderson), Holton, Hurter. Still would love another pitcher or 2 but doesn’t look horrible.

I like Jansen for a year. He’s not in his prime, but he’s earned a shot at the back of this bullpen. Keeps runners off the bases, walk rate is lowest it’s been in several years, even if he didn’t strike out the world last season. And going from the Angels to the Tigers is a definite upgrade for him.

So... Jansen being a borderline HOF-er (seriously, a bit easier for relievers to get in) has me thinking: who are the most likely 2026 Tigers to be hall of famers?

I'd say:

1. Skubal

2. Jansen

3. McGonigle

4. Greene?

Jansen seems like the kind of guy that might fall off the cliff any year - 37 years old with declining k rate and velocity.  He might be a Joe Nathan signing or maybe they can squeeze another good year out of him.

$11 million for Jansen plus a club option.

For that price would have rather used that money towards a legit bat or frontline starter. Not a fan.

In Kaiju movies, they never attack Michigan.
