I too think this is good news. My guess is now we don't go after Bregman (if we ever were going to).

I actually think we will and McGonigle will play shortstop. Add Bregman, Devon Williams , Finnigan,  King and keep SkUUB.

Good news. [Gleyber] was our best hitter through the first half of the season. Solid two hitter.

Number two describes his second half. 😉

Good try by Harris to try and get a draft pick. Part of me thinks he didn't really want Torres to re-sign but wanted the extra pick if he could get it.

Granting that it might be true on some margin, if he truly did not want Torres to come back, I don't believe Harris would have taken a big risky swing by offering a QO crossing his fingers it gets turned down, only to say "oh **** on a stick" if Gleyber were to pick it up. I think Scott was pretty much banking on Torres coming back.

he was a 3 WAR ( and I will bravely use this term fully cognizant of all that has gone on above!) even with a bad lower half for half a season. I think any GM would be crazy to be disappointed that was coming back.

Edman desperately and admirably trying to shift the conversation to potential player transactions only to be dismissed by the WAR squad.  Pretty sure I can speak for Idaho Bert and I when I say, thank you.

I’m not sure what’s going on here, because a lot of this is over my head, but since I’m an attention whore, I’m glad to be mentioned in any post.

I’m glad Gleyber accepted the QO. Ever since I saw him as a 17-year-old playing among 21-year-olds in the Northwest League in Boise, and obviously being the best player on the field, he has held a special place in my heart and mind.

And I don’t care if his 3.9LSTMFT+ stats were deficient when he was playing through an injury towards the end of the season.

I had a hernia repair surgery that laid me up the summer I turned 9 but I came back and tore up Little League as a 10 year old with a bunch of singles and safe on an error at bats. Hoping Torres will bounce back as well.

I will admit that Gleyber is so round, so firm, so fully-packed, so free and easy on the draw.

It feels good to be so well understood. I’d walk a mile for everybody on this site. Well most everybody.

We are still a flawed hitting team that strikes out too much. We cannot stop adding just because we signed Torres.  He is only getting $7 million more than last season.  We are over stocked at SS and 3B with Keith, McKinstry, Ibanez, Baez, Sweeney, Vierling, McGonige. Anderson, and Jung.  Something has to give.  Personally. I would still shoot for a more veteran 3B, a starter behind Skubal, a good OF, and 2 relievers.  However, I still do not think Harris and Illitch are interested in adding that much payroll. .

In the cases of Darnell, Little, and Mattison, the Tigers can offer them a raise on their minor league split (the AAA minimum for somebody on the 40 man is $127k next year... They can offer something on the order of $160k) and not have to pass them through waivers. This assuming all six of those guys are non-tendered Friday.

Still an over abundance of mediocre short stops and third baseman, except for McGonigle and Anderson. Would love Bregman or Suarez but highly doubt the Tigers will offer.

Lots of 40-man turnover already.
