Week Eleven: Detroit Lions (6-3) @ Philadelphia Eagles (7-2)

This is one of those rare games I can watch because it’s on NBC Peacock instead of Fox, which only lets me watch games in the West locally. It’s nice on occasion to be included in what is important to all the rest of you.

I hope the Lions don’t screw the pooch and disappoint me.

I think the Lions should win this game. Doesn’t mean they will, road night games in the elements against the defending champs are no gimmes, and who knows how the officials will wake up feeling. But I like their chances.

Talent-wise these teams are equally matched, but the Eagles haven’t looked good against a good opponent since September. Ten points won’t cut it against the Lions. Add onto that the Eagles have a short week coming off a cold, physical game.

Coaching wise, Nick Sirianni looked absolutely clueless in the 4th quarter against the Packers. I’ve never seen Campbell, or any of his coordinators, make a series of such boneheaded decisions. Lions need to minimize mistakes, and fix whatever is going on with special teams, and I think they come out of this with a win.

I don't see this as a should win game at all. No doubt that Sirianni made one of the worst calls in NFL history with that egregious 4th down call against Green Bay but this is the defending Superbowl Champs with a loaded roster that knows how to play big games so this will be the hardest game of the season for the Lions to win IMO. They definitely can win because they are also loaded with talent but they've struggled all season against physical teams on the road so this one has me nervous.

I've mellowed a little with the injury report.

I still think they ought to win this game. I think Philly is a basket case ready to blow. They're talented, but there are too many personalities and they're too poorly coached. If the Lions play their A game, they'll win.

That said, I will no longer say they should win this game in the same way they should beat the Giants or should have beat the Vikings.

Don’t know much about history, don’t know much biology, don’t know much about science books, don’t know much about the French I took, but with all of the injuries, and on the road against a team, that’s the reigning Super Bowl cham-peen, our prospects for this game are not ideeel…

'Permanently' until the end of the season?  /..sigh../

There are many adverbs that might describe "till the end of the season". One thing that is permanent is that permanently isn't one of them! 🙄

There are quite a few OC’s that don’t call plays.  Johnson has an OC in Chicago for example.

You would think that if Campbell wanted to call plays though, he already would be. He had the opportunity when he hired Anthony Lynn, when he hired Ben Johnson, and when he hired John Morton. He hasn't, until forced to. Maybe that will change, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a mutual parting of ways this offseason.

I wouldn’t either, but he implied at is press conference that Johnson had to watch him do it for a while(after Lynn was fired) to know what he was thinking and he believed that Morton could learn that also.  He also believes in what Morton brings on the passing side.  So I could see it going either way.  I could also see Campbell keeping Morton and continuing to call plays if that’s what he thinks is best.

Whatever way, Campbell has shown he will do whatever he thinks is best for the team -and so far he has been proven correct many more times than not.

Watching the KC v Denver game, I think I might just about be ready for new PI rules. Tossing the ball up hoping for a bailout is getting old. The PI that setup the KC TD was marginal at best. So tired of it. I’m so glad we don’t do that crap. Being unable to excute a play shouldn’t be rewarded.

Then the Brown’s Ward pulls a receiver’s arm down in the end zone so he can’t make an attempt to catch a pass on a well designed pass play and it’s uncalled. Exhausting.
