Reading between the lines (and to be clear I'm speculating here)... it may have been Mahagony who didn't pass conditioning. He was placed on Active/NFI, and Campbell was nondescript in reporting what had happened to him. Just said he needs a few days and will be back with the team.

I am guessing it was Tufele that didn't pass the conditioning test. If Mahagony showed up out of shape he may not make the team, not a good look for a young guy battling for a starting job.

Regarding Kerby probably not being ready for opening day, i agree he has a limited amount of milage left on those knees and the Lions are conserving the wear and tear, hopefully to have him ready for the playoffs. Almost a given that the Lions opt out of that contract after this year.

And Branch possibly returning to practice is big news. Although returning to practice isn't the same as ready to play in a game. It does increase the odds that he is up to full speed later this year however.

I saw elsewhere that Campbell believes both Branch and Joseph are on a similar timeline, late September to early October.

At least on paper, the Lions early season schedule is a little more forgiving. Saints-Bills-Jets-Panthers-Cardinals should be a 4-1 start. 3-2 at the absolute worst. That takes you into the bye week before you play the Packers at home on October 25. Having at least one of those two back for that game would be nice.

Listening to the press report, Campbell did not seem overtly pleased about this.

I could of course be reading too much into it but Campbell seemed a bit upset about the situation... given that Manu hasn't done much I'm not thinking he's upset about not having the player available. Which makes me think he's a bit upset that the injury was undisclosed.

150000 CW fans will be several years closer to total deafness by tomorrow night. I'm not kidding at all, we are 2 miles from the stadium and can hear the show. There is nothing at an UM/OSU football game that even remotely approaches that kind of volume. This is actually pathologically dangerous (and foolish) for these poor people.

Me and my wife knew we lost probably 10% of our hearing when we went to see an Iron Maiden concert probably about 10 years ago (Alice Cooper opened, and we always see Cooper). It was our first time seeing Maiden, and I'll say if we did lose 10% of our hearing, it was kind of worth it. 🙂 Maiden was great.

There’s plenty to be displeased about. It happening in the first place in non-football activities, Manu not reporting it, and now losing him for three months.

I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s just released with an injury settlement at the end of camp if (knock on wood) all our other linemen stay healthy.

Saw Iron Maiden in 1982 in North Carolina with an Army buddy (we were in the same unit at Fort Bragg...).

Maiden has always been outstanding. We were right in front of the stage, jam-packed... pushed all night long from behind by the packed in crowd. Sky-high humidity and everyone on and off the stage was sweltering...

Until they turned on the fans and mist...

The entire auditorium relaxed backwards with the cool mist coating everyone in front and drifting backwards through the crowd. "Aaaaaahhhh!!!" You could hear it, feel it, see it.

Bruce Dickinson just floored us...

And Steve Harris's bass just grabbed ahold of our souls...

Top 5 concert of all time.

He was already on thin ice from a roster standpoint. If he got injured chasing a puppy peeing on the stairs and didn’t disclose it to the team, that might be it.

Something interesting I realized is that the oldest player on the Lions roster is Bridgewater at 33. Of the players likely to make the roster, only three are over 30 in Goff, Bridgewater, and Conklin. Only Goff is really a starter and 31 is not old for a QB. That means the entirety of this roster is basically in their prime. This isn't a team relying on old veterans.

I don't doubt the signing is in some way connected to Rolder's injury, but I expect the team was in touch with the player before the injury. Rolder was a 4th round rookie, they can't have expected all that much from him. The injury likely just pushed it over the edge.

rolder was hurt all the time at michigan, him getting hurt in the pros is almost a guarantee.  the only surprising thing is that it took this long.
