According to Brandon Day at Bless You Boys, "Will Vest diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right elbow, but may be able to return this year."

At least it appears there may be a reason he was performing so poorly.

would explain a few things. My only critique is how long it took them to figure it out. Or maybe Will just kept denying there was anything wrong. Anything is possible, but still a little hard to believe he could be pitching with a stress fracture and not have a pretty good clue something wasn't right!

We've all been around the game long enough to question a pitcher's health when he suddenly out of nowhere starts doing terrible. Thing about Vest, though, he was lights out in the seventh and ninth while being sub-replacement in the eighth.

Encouraging

Encouraging that he threw 3 innings. I wouldn't read much into him dominating comples leaguers, though. At least he threw strikes.

Right. Throw strikes in the right place, get your sequences right and in the right places, throw without new pain. Who cares if they hit your meatballs or luck out on your edge pitches.

And building up his endurance. All good signs...encouraging.

On the one hand, this looks like good news at first blush.

On the other hand, we're 25-23 against teams .500 or better and 19-29 against teams under .500, so ...

And on the third hand, there's only one team with an easier schedule, and it's those guys.

How are you feeling about this? 😁

This kid is always in pretty good company.

1. Ty Cobb

2. Kevin McGonigle

How crazy is that?

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2026/07/the-opener-red-sox-abreu-orioles-mcgonigle.html

Tigers rookie Kevin McGonigle recorded two hits in a 7-0 win over the Angels yesterday, the first being a double to lead off the game against Grayson Rodriguez. That was the 100th hit of McGonigle’s career, and he reached that mark in just 95 games. The young infielder is the second player in Tigers history to record 100 hits in less than 100 games (h/t to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News). The other was Hall-of-Famer Ty Cobb. McGonigle is batting .281/.389/.418 with a 132 wRC+ in 422 plate appearances. He ranks in the 85th percentile or better for strikeout rate (14.0%), walk rate (14.2%), and Batting Run Value (15), according to Statcast.

I was reviewing his hitting stats just agape, and realized that if he had the same power now he had in West Mich and Erie last year, he’d be the inside favorite for AL MVP this year. He is already going to get some top-5 votes as it is.

Jason Thompson sighting at the Troy Sports Card show today.  I thought it was Jack Morris at first.

I wonder how many players have had 30 HR / 100 RBI seasons in both leagues. I was sad to see him get traded. I saw a couple of his Tiger dingers in person

Shoutout stathead, and shoutout stathead for presenting it in reverse alphabetical order. Either way, the list is pretty crowded. It wasn't as crowded when Thompson accomplished the feat though.

I love how every instance of Richard’s nickname gets the **** treatment.

Can we all agree to go with Dicque to avoid the asterisks from now on?
