lordstanley Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Damn! The Tigers were a 2-2 checked swing away from winning and just lost on walkoff homer. Quote

When we finally faced a LH pitcher, he was sick with that stomach flu. I'm glad Hinch stuck with him, it woukda been easy to demote him. Also another good point. Quote

chasfh Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago This is only the second time in history this specific situation occurred in history: (1) Tigers take a five-plus run lead, then (2) lose the lead to go down two-plus runs, then (3) retake the lead, but (4) end up losing the game: July 19, 2008 at the Orioles: https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BAL/BAL200807190.shtml June 25, 1934 at the A’s: https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/PHA/PHA193406250.shtml That 1934 game was extra special because between (2) and (3), we tied the game, then went down a run before retaking the two-run lead. Tenacious D Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago This is probably a .500 team with our bullpen. I don’t see any help coming from within and teams don’t usually give up any players of worth prior to July. Even then, we’d need to add 2-3 arms to be competitive. Our saving grace is that we play in the AL Central and should be able to hang around most of the season. Quote

I think we have some financial constraints that are going to keep us from being buyers so we don’t lose out on draft picks. Getting Verlander, which hopefully can be a starter moves Flaherty or Monterro to the pen and that’ll help. Also Melton and Jobe being able to help out of the pen or as starters late this year will help with quality arms. With that said we are a couple arm injuries that will inevitably happen from disaster right now on the pitching side. Quote
Tenacious D Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I’m not counting on Melton or Jobe this season. Anything we get is a plus. Quote

Walks are up all across the league, and the Tiger pitchers are actually about average overall. Of course given that Skubal is WAY below average that means everyone else is a bit above, but as a team they are not an outlier (yet?). These guys all need to pitch to the smaller zone - and I don't think anybody should expect to see last yrs ERAs. That said, the converse is that the offense has to better than last year as well because everyone else's will be. Quote
