I guess that’s true, although I’ve heard the manager of the Mudhens claim otherwise. I’m not sure how many chances the Tigers owe Jung. Maybe he’ll stick this time.

That could be like Anderson pumping up Pittaro.  It is just hard for me to believe that someone who has become a journeyman infielder is worth getting excited about.

Probably true. I have to admit I’m tired of waiting for Jung to break out. This is one of those situations for which there’s no easy fix within the organization right now.

I think the Tigers see Jung as the better player.

No, maybe best player to fill in, short term. Protect SS in case of emergency. Don't have to worry about options or putting another player on the 40 man roster  And a RH bat. They're leaving the better, future player, in Toledo. Instead of sitting on the bench in Detroit for two weeks. Or....you were being sarcastic? 😅😅

Based on Hinch’s comments, Mize got decent news and will miss a few starts…Baez timeline unknown…. I would guess mid to late June.

Jung is batting .222 at Toledo while Workman is batting .344.  Additionally, Workman can play pretty much every position with the exception of catcher.  Why on earth would he not be the one called up?

Workman has a LH bat and they want a RH bat?

God help us if McGonigle gets injured tonight, because as far as I can tell, he's the only shortstop we got now. And he's already in the bottom quarter of shortstops league-wide.

I don't know that Workman is more worthy than Jung based on one month at Toledo.  Since they let him get away two years ago, I think they see him as a flawed player.

Not that Jung isn't!

TBF, Workman put up a 900+ OPS last August and September in Toledo as well, but he was still striking out way too much. Somewhere along the line Workman stopped switch hitting, and his improvement has followed his concentration  on hitting from one side of the plate, so there is some rationale for thinking he's not quite the same player that putzed around the system for so many years. OTOH, when K's are the problem in the minors, that's about the worst sign for a hitter making it at the next level.

Unfortunately, Jung's K rate at Toledo is also 30%. There isn't a whole lot to be excited about either one of these guys. I just would like to see Workman because he is more of an unknown. Have already seen enough of Jace for the pessimism to be well baked.  🙄

Torres is not nimble or quick at all for a guy in his 20s

When I saw him playing in Boise when he was 17, he was really skinny which he isn’t anymore. I only saw him in one game and was unable to gauge how fast he was, but he was more adroit than anyone else on the field who were all four years older than him so the added weight may make a difference.

I wasn't being sarcastic.  I don't believe that a 26 year old player who has played for three different teams in the past two years and can't stay on a on a 40-man roster has any future.  I don't think Jung has any future either, but I think the Tigers view him as better.

also, is anyone listening to the radio stream and getting completely whacked-out sound? it sounds like the old days of trying to tune in a radio station that's barely in range.

edit: well, it's better now, after I muted it briefly. maybe it was my 'puter.

This Ritchie fellow is a rookie… “And the Tigers have never seen his stuff before…“

I take it all back… All this sheer serendipity happened with two outs!
