I said three weeks ago Jake and Skubal to the Dodgers for one of their top four minor league outfielders + one of Sheehan or Rivers plus a sweetener. Tarik is not pitching for us tomorrow. His Tiger career is over.

I feel like this is a clear sign of selling. Jake is very popular on the team. I think his defense is more valuable than anything Outman is doing. More moves coming.

I will miss Jake.

Same.  I thought he was fine as a backup catcher and wouldn’t have been annoyed if we re-signed him.  There are far bigger problems with the roster than Jake, but this is how the business goes sometimes.

Hope he can land on a ML roster somewhere and have a bit of success.

Pitching him tomorrow is all downside.   Possible poor performance or injury.  Only small upside is 1000Ks as a Tiger.   Not worth it.

Maybe.

That would be EXTREMELY telling if he gets pulled from his start...

Adds a small degree of value in a trade - he can immediately go for his new team or go whenever on extra rest.

Sure...

But...

Meet our price.

You have to pitch Skubal.  Part of any negotiation is teams needing to convince the Tigers to deal him. If you sit him, you alienate both Skubal and the team while signaling to other teams that he will be dealt.

Depends... if you have a few deals lined up and it's just a matter to playing them against each other and/or finalizing a few details, then sit Skubal. Don't risk and injury.

But if it's all totally up in the air and nebulous without anything bordering on firm details, then yeah... play him.

I agree. But I think he will be traded before game time.

I've said maybe, twice, to sitting Skubal.

Because I agree with what you've said above.

HOWEVER... there is one scenario in which I could see the Tigers sitting him...

The Dodgers call and tell Harris they are meeting his price. They've agreed on the trade and just have to close it out by dotting the I's and crossing the T's. And, "oh by the way, please sit him since we have essentially, already, traded for him."

Just my 2 cents.

I expect 4 cents. This is about Skubal

I still think there's a solid chance Skubal stays. If a team steps up with a massive offer he's gone. I'm not convinced that offer comes. And with Det mostly healthy now, if Harris can upgrade the bullpen, let's let it ride

If you upgrade the pen you probably wreck your compensation picks

I just don't see them doing that.  Keeping Skubal and adding salary

We'll soon find out. They're already very likely to get a hi extra pick and extra pool money if McGonigle wins ROY. Like I said, if a great offer comes Skubal is gone. If not, at 5 and 3.5 back I think Skubal stays. And if that happens I believe Harris will indeed look for bullpen help at the deadline

Twins say they are buyers.

They're 0.5 GB in the wildcard and 2.0 GB in the division.  They should be trying to make the playoffs.

The upside is winning the game.

Maybe, maybe not.  Torres could be moved.  It depends on the salary coming back.
