papalawrence Posted August 2 Posted August 2 (edited) Just for ratings comparison, when JV was traded Franklin Perez was 39 and Daz Cameron was 75 on the mlb top 100 prospects list at the time of the trade. Still a crap shoot. Had hoped Sheehan was part of the deal Edited August 2 by papalawrence 1 Quote

Not only a FA, but Tigers need to figure out if Lee, Anderson, and/or Jung are worthy of being on a good mlb roster. Valdez/Melton/Olson/Jobe/River Ryan/Montero and FA or 2. Hopefully that is enough to build a solid rotation going in to next year. Need to get something for Mize. I would probably keep Flaherty unless tigs actually get something decent Isn't Flaherty on the injured list? Injured players used to not be allowed to be traded, I think? Quote
buddha Posted August 2 Posted August 2 i dont get the dodger hate. any other team could have beaten that offer and they chose not to do it. why are the brewers ****ing around? you havent won jack since 1982 and the best pitcher on the market is available and you cant beat that offer? dont cry about dodger money when you dont even try to win. this trade had nothing to do with money. 3 5 Quote

I don't hate the Dodgers for doing whatever they can to win within the rules. I hate them because they win, win, win. Just like I hate the Yankees and Red Sox. I hate the Dodgers! Quote
Motown Bombers Posted August 2 Posted August 2 The only reason Skubal is available is because the Tigers can't compete with teams like the Dodgers. Maybe the Brewers didn't offer more because he would strictly be a rental vs the Dodgers ability to offer him a blank check. This only happens in baseball where teams are forced to trade players because they can't afford to re-sign them. Quote

monkeytargets39 Posted August 2 Posted August 2 I feel that the return is weak, but part of that is because I don’t view Skubal as a rental for them. I expect him to sign there in the offseason and they probably do too—and now they have negotiating time with him. Quote

The best teams are in Kansas City, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Buffalo etc. The worst teams are in New York. The best teams are the ones that can draft and develop. Quote

I don’t disagree, however, I’m guessing the Tigers were demanding Jesus Made. i can understand why the brewers wouldn’t do that Quote

Hope will be in Spring Training next year with a real chance to win an OF job to start the season. If he doesn't win RF outright, on the Opening Day roster... he will still be up sometime in 2027... May/ June/ July? Just a guess at this point. But we will see him in Detroit at some point in 2027. IMO. Quote

I mean, Skubal wasn't the difference maker for the Tigers last year. Maybe the Brewers didn't want to put all their eggs in one basket for one year. They've done that multiple times in the past and it didn't work out. Quote

Tiger337 Posted August 2 Posted August 2 The Brewers are a great organization with an average payroll. They need to keep their best prospects to be a perennial contender. Getting Skubal does not guarantee a championship and not getting him does not guarantee they lose it. The idea that nobody can beat the Dodgers is way overblown. The just barely won last year. The Brewers can still beat them this year without Skubal. 1 Quote

With the Brewers too, it comes down to having a track record of developing prospects. Take a little confidence in that and act accordingly. The fact that they didn't make the deal here says a lot. I didn't say they can't be beat, but they have won the last two World Series and have played in 5 of the last 9 because they can just go out and give $700 million to Ohtani, and sign Freeman, Betts and now Skubal. With Freeman and Betts aging, they can just sign/trade for their replacements. Teams like the Tigers have to execute perfectly on their drafting and developing or else they will be in perpetual rebuild like they were after they traded Verlander. Quote
