They guys Harris has focused on drafting/developing have not had the platoon splits going through the minors that Avila's have. Clark/McGonigle, even Hope. And at Toledo, Callahan is also doing well as a Carpenter type bat who has speed and can play all 3 positions. Did guys like Carpenter and Keith have large platoon splits in the minor leagues? I always hated that we never gave those guys a chance to learn to hit left handed pitching. Quote

A negotiator doesn't offer all their best assets to a desperate trade partner. I think someone like the Braves, Brewers or even Toronto would have paid handsomely for Skubal this past off season. But again, we'll never know. But if they all would have looked at what they had, knowing they had a chance to get a true #1, I think there would have been a massive bidding war. ESPECIALLY if the Tigers paid down some or even half of his salary after the arbitration hearing..... A #1 pitcher for a whole year makes a lot more of a difference than one for 50 days...... Quote

Who did they have that you would have been thrilled with? Actually, more to the point, that would have given us a better return than we got with Zyhir, Ryan, and Smith? Quote

papalawrence Posted August 3 Posted August 3 I thought Harris would address the bullpen. Probably is looking at River and Jackson to help 1 Quote
chasfh Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Two minutes later and still waiting on word of a return hopefully better than the value of a sandwich comp pick ... Quote

lordstanley Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Mayfield is the Padres' #2 prospect? https://www.mlb.com/milb/prospects/padres Jackson Wolf is 27 years old with no MLB stats. Quote
mtutiger Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Kash Mayfield is probably better than a sandwich pick.... Quote
Tiger337 Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Kash Mayfield is the Padres #2 prospect but not top 100 (for whatever that's worth). Jackson is a 27 year old pitcher with a 7.05 ERA. I'll wait for reports on Mayfield, but right now I am wishing they kept Mize. Quote
