I don’t see his leg kick mechanics aging well. Plus in LA, he isn’t going to be THE guy, and he always seemed to feed off of that with us…so I can see him having some difficulty adjusting to just being “another member of the rotation” for LA. They aren’t going to embrace him like they do with Ohtani. I wonder about his health. He’s a pitcher, he’s had issues previously. And what’s the saying about pitchers, they’ve either been injured or are going to be injured? I don’t know about his makeup and adjusting to be just another SP. I suspect he’ll be fine with that, but I don’t know for sure one way or another. Quote

It sucks to see Skubal go, but such is the state of things. One thing that I heard that sticks in my mind is are we getting to a point closer than we think where the name of Skubal is going to have more value than the performance of Skubal? I am disappointed that they couldn’t move Torres. I suspect they tried and there just wasn’t a market? Or perhaps there was too much requested for a return? Something might leak about it, but who knows if it will be true. I am disappointed that they couldn’t address the bullpen. A better bullpen would have made up for the loss in the rotation a bit, but probably not enough to offset the loss of Skubal and Mize. I suppose the market for controllable RP was too much. Torres has missed half their games this year. Just too unreliable health wise to trade for I think. Quote

But I’m not trading for him, I’m looking to trade him away. Hey, this Torres is ok in my lineup, but, wow, drop him in yours and, you would get an “S” grade. Quote

There's a whole boatload of games this season that could have went a different way that maybe prevents this outcome. Even got to see one live (the one where Kerry hit a grand slam and they still managed to lose). They were in a really tough spot this deadline, perhaps tougher than any other team. Wish they would have played better and nailed some games down earlier in the season Edited August 4 by mtutiger 1 Quote

Hart Posted August 4 Posted August 4 I had MLB network on in the background all day and I kept hearing how teams were searching for a quality right handed bat. Seems like we missed an opportunity with Gleyber. Quote

Not sure I believe that, but who knew how pivotal that one at bat was. The Tigers case for buying or selling was on a knifes edge. And they had two series coming off the Angels Cubs series against mediocre teams (Royals, Orioles) and, frankly, underperformed. I'm not sure I fall completely on the side that he landed, but it's not hard to understand at all Edited August 4 by mtutiger 1 Quote

Still confused and hungry, but some wings and a Greek salad are on the way Casual observation over time could suggest that Casey was never Hinch’s favorite player and also that that Hinch was not Casey’s favorite manager. Did that make a difference? Who knows? Edited August 4 by gehringer_2 1 Quote
oblong Posted August 4 Posted August 4 The point I made to someone is, imagine they keep that lead against BAL but lose the first game in Sacramento. Psychologically it’s different but it’s still 1-1 over two games. Quote

Leaving him off the playoff roster one year, quibbling over a few 100K during arbitration, not reactivating him in 2024 immediately and instead leaving him in Toledo for about a month. It adds up. That ultimately is what made the Baltimore series feel like a playoff series Edited August 4 by mtutiger 1 Quote

CMRivdogs Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Not Tiger related (any more) but I did find it a bit amusing to see Jake Rodgers included in the Rutchman deal. He barely had time to unpack in Baltimore. Quote

papalawrence Posted August 4 Posted August 4 The trades were ok. A sense of ushering in a new era, led by McGonigle, Clark,....? Even the 2024 team seems bygone now. Not building on that team. Keeping its spare parts and starting something new. Sort of like mtv on 8/1/'81. Video killed the radio star. Quote

Heck, they might still think they have a good shot at it. We still have a solid rotation, the bats have really picked up,m and we have the weakest schedule of just about anyone left. And while I am at it, **** Jack Flaherty for posting that ****. He's definitely not part of the future, anyway. And if he wants to get paid by some second-division team this winter, he better not let his fee-fees **** up his performance when does come back. Yup...F Jack. If he hadn't pitched like a washed-up has-been the first few months of the season, we would be much closer to 1st place and Skubal and Mize dont get moved. So the Tigers being sellers are a huge partial fault of Jack Flaherty. F him. Quote
Tiger337 Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Harris talked to Skubal once about a contract? I don't know much about contract negotiations, but shouldn't there have been a followup at some point? I'm just curious. I didn't want him signed to a ridiculous long term deal. 1 Quote

Great teams, not good teams but great teams, are build with great players up the middle. Clark, Kevin, Dingler and Lee are an excellent foundation to building a championship caliber team. Seriously...losing Skubal and Mize hurts this season but the return was much better (possibly) than the draft picks we may have gotten. It very well may he that we've seen the last of the Tigers being sellers at the deadline for several years. Or longer...the future in Detroit is bright. 2 Quote
