MLB won’t want to broadcast that. 1 Quote
1776 Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 (edited) Of all the horseshit and monotonous hype on the MLB website front page, nothing about Whitakers’ number being retired this evening. Edited August 6, 2022 by 1776 Quote
Sports_Freak Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 So, I can use a magic marker and draw #1 on a blank Tiger uniform and then say it's a Lou Whitaker All-Star jersey? 😆😆 Quote

Tigermojo Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 They said they would show it. They showed a short interview with Tram and Lou so far. Quote
casimir Posted August 6, 2022 Author Posted August 6, 2022 Well, let’s be honest. Shame on the Tigers for not honoring Whitaker before now (and, yes, before 2020 when this was originally scheduled). 1 Quote
mtutiger Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Don't know why the Tigers don't call up JK Simmons more often... Quote
Tigerbomb13 Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 I remember my dad watching the 1984 World Series, and having my earliest baseball memory watching with him. He asked me who my favorite player was. My response? “Blue Vinegar”. 2 1 Quote
mtutiger Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 (edited) It's a number retirement ceremony, but it's almost doubling as an examination of evidence of Lou's case as a HOF-er Edited August 6, 2022 by mtutiger Quote
Tenacious D Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 Very conspicuous that neither Ilitch nor Avila were introduced. Clearly to avoid being booed mercilessly. They are on the stage but have had no role. Quote

I went to Kings/Wings game back in 2002 and saw him sitting at the stands, I called out JOHN and he looked up, I introduced myself as a Detroiter and he said So Am I and his handshake is as firm as you would think. This was when he was playing Schillinger on Oz, so I am thinking people probably were scared of him and left him alone. Quote
