We need a health thread. Anyway, I found this study interesting and the snarky comment at the end very true. Meanwhile I've switched to Half-caff, a bit too early to give an opinion here

I drink one or two 12-16 oz. servings of coffee a day. I grind Ethiopian beans and usually brew a rounded 1/4 cup in a French press. And if it allegedly helps me not have dementia I’m all for it.

Every morning, I wake up, and I smoke a cigarette. And then I eat five strips of bacon. And for lunch, I eat a bacon sandwich. And for a midday snack?  Bacon!  A whole damn plate!

And I usually drink my dinner.

I usually smoke my bacon. Either that or the bacon factory smokes it for me.

as long as your bacon factory's smoke doesn't comes in a bottle.

(although to be perfectly honest, what's in an actual fire probably isn't all that much worse than what's in the bottle.....🤷‍♂️)

I had a big battle with boredom eating. Basically a long commute had me picking up a "snack" along the way. My weight ballooned to about 250.

Right now health problems and reactions to medication has brought it down to around 155. It helps in a way my medication does no tolerate soft drinks well, and my appetite is a lot less than what it was.

I'm still trying to get in around a mile walking each day when possible. I still need to concentrate on light weight training to build muscle.

Still a struggle but as a wise man once told me, "Take it inch by inch".

I am super lucky that, while blissfully ignoring my New Year's resolution by sitting on the couch munching a bag of shelled peanuts and watching TV after another day at the salt mines, I was motivated by a Vic Tanny ad in the Free Press on January 31, 1989, to go join up. As I remember the cost was $72 a year which was supposed to be fixed for a lifetime. I became aware six years later that the fine print allowed them to jack up the price after six years, which they did, to $99. Either way, because I was motivated to use the gym if I was going to have to pay for it, and I have been working out on the regular ever since, 37 years this month.

And here is that ad.

I’ve watched approximately 2,812 hours of curling this past week.  I still have no idea how the scoring works.

One point for each stone the scoring team has closer to the center than the other team’s closest stone.

Essentially it’s how many stones you have that are closer to the center than the opposing team has.  You work in “ends”. Which are like innings.  Each team throws 8 stones per end(4 per person). You could score 4 per end or 1.

That’s it?  Well, clearly I’m an idiot.

Yep. It has long history so it makes sense to be basic. But there is strategy. There’s a coach. They call timeouts.

I watched a lot growing up on CBC.

Watching the curling in the Olympics was really cool stuff since forever, and it still is quite entertaining.

We use to bowl at 6:30, get done at 9ish, go in the lounge and play shuffleboard. It was a riot. It is shuffleboard on ice. No fingers. 🙂

I got a kick out of the 1972 guy with the lung dart sticking out of his mouth. I'm guessing there were a few beers not far away.

Mostly except in shuffleboard you get counted based on the zone yours are in.  In Curling it's just the # of rocks, regardless of where they are at.  As long as they are closer than their best one it counts as 1.
