Mostly except in shuffleboard you get counted based on the zone yours are in.  In Curling it's just the # of rocks, regardless of where they are at.  As long as they are closer than their best one it counts as 1.

You are correct. I was referring more to the game played on a long wooden table as opposed to the ground version.

But you have to jump up on top of there and sweep?  Seems like a bad idea.

This table looks pretty clean, but the same thing we used to play. Part of the deal was also about the "stuff" you put on the table. I don't remember what it was. They would have like a large salt shaker with small pebble type stuff they would sprinkle on the table. The more "stuff" the faster it was. Kinda like oil and bowling lanes. I don't remember, 25 ft long? It was fun.

Loser buys the next round.

I always thought it was sawdust.

A friend just put one in his basement rec room.  They call the powder 'sand' but it's a mix of things that are softer than beach sand type sand as you don't want it to scratch the table.

From Wiki

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_shuffleboard

In order to decrease friction, the table is periodically sprinkled liberally with tiny beads of silicone (often referred to as shuffleboard wax even though silicone is not a wax, or sometimes as shuffleboard sand, or shuffleboard cheese, due to its visual similarity to grated cheese). These beads act like ball bearings, letting a puck slide down the table a great distance with only a slight push. There are many different speeds of wax to choose from to match the player's skill level. Powdered wax is made of silicone, cornmeal and sometimes compressed walnut shells. The longer the table, the greater speed of wax that is needed. Faster speed waxes have more silicone and less cornmeal.

Yea, it very well might have been. Guys got really competitive with that stuff. Played for money too. Of course they just got done bowling and there was beer.

We called it cheese, since it resembled fine parmesan.

That's how I would describe what ours looked like.

Guys would use their last two fingers along side the table as a guide, while holding the puck with their thumb and first finger while throwing it, and even put a tad bit of spin on it. I thought it was fun. Wasn't any good, but fun.
