In Curling it's just the # of rocks, regardless of where they are at. As long as they are closer than their best one it counts as 1. You are correct. I was referring more to the game played on a long wooden table as opposed to the ground version. Quote
oblong Posted Tuesday at 04:18 PM Posted Tuesday at 04:18 PM I"ve only played that when I'm drunk and I'm not sure what we were doing. We probably just made up our game. 1 Quote

I was referring more to the game played on a long wooden table as opposed to the ground version. This table looks pretty clean, but the same thing we used to play. Part of the deal was also about the "stuff" you put on the table. I don't remember what it was. They would have like a large salt shaker with small pebble type stuff they would sprinkle on the table. The more "stuff" the faster it was. Kinda like oil and bowling lanes. I don't remember, 25 ft long? It was fun. Loser buys the next round. Quote

They call the powder 'sand' but it's a mix of things that are softer than beach sand type sand as you don't want it to scratch the table. Quote
Deleterious Posted yesterday at 04:09 AM Posted yesterday at 04:09 AM From Wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_shuffleboard In order to decrease friction, the table is periodically sprinkled liberally with tiny beads of silicone (often referred to as shuffleboard wax even though silicone is not a wax, or sometimes as shuffleboard sand, or shuffleboard cheese, due to its visual similarity to grated cheese). These beads act like ball bearings, letting a puck slide down the table a great distance with only a slight push. There are many different speeds of wax to choose from to match the player's skill level. Powdered wax is made of silicone, cornmeal and sometimes compressed walnut shells. The longer the table, the greater speed of wax that is needed. Faster speed waxes have more silicone and less cornmeal. Quote
Dan Gilmore Posted yesterday at 04:10 AM Posted yesterday at 04:10 AM We called it cheese, since it resembled fine parmesan. Quote

Screwball Posted yesterday at 04:12 AM Posted yesterday at 04:12 AM Hahahaha!!!! Great stuff. Looks like the table can be from 9 to 22 ft long. Ours were at least 20. Quote

That's how I would describe what ours looked like. Guys would use their last two fingers along side the table as a guide, while holding the puck with their thumb and first finger while throwing it, and even put a tad bit of spin on it. I thought it was fun. Wasn't any good, but fun. Quote
Biff Mayhem Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Wait, guys were playing something and it got competitive? That’s odd! 🤣 Quote

We used to go to some FOE when I was really young and they had one of these tables. It’s was kind of like fine sawdust. Quote

casimir Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Anyone ever play Fascination? I don’t think there’s many of those games left. There’s a hole in the wall Fascination place in Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio. Sure wish they would patch the place up, but there’s probably no money in it. Anyway, it’s kind of like bingo. There’s 5x5 grid of holes that you roll these racquetball size slightly heavier rubber balls at. The middle hole is plugged and a free space. The object is 5 in a line like bingo. But there’s a V shaped ramp in between you and the grid. So, the screws up its path. Then the ball could have its path impacted depending on how it travels amongst the holes. So, it looks easy, but there’s definitely luck involved. As the game goes, there’s a “scoreboard” on your lane showing you what holes you’ve gotten. Games ends once there’s on player with a line of 5. It might last around a minute depending upon how many people are playing. I think this place has 36 or 40 lanes, but as I mentioned, it’s a hole in the wall, so some of the lanes are unplayable. 1 Quote

The bowling alley had a door that went into the locker room that had probably a hundred lockers people rented to keep their balls. Once done bowling, and a bad night, they would play George Foreman with the door. After about 3 of them, we put up one that was solid wood. Next guy that whacked was done for the year. It was amazing how serious some people took that stuff. Playing a game, add alcohol, what can possibly go wrong? It was quite entertaining. Quote
oblong Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Bowling Alleys were bars you could take your kids to. “Heres a bunch of quarters. Go play video games. We will be over here smoking and drinking and maybe flirting. Get some nachos”. Quote
