Not that Cy Young voting is a perfect metric but Valdez finished in the top 10 in voting for the Cy Young in 2022, 2023, and 2024, plus 11th in 2020 (which doesn't really count). The analytics may not support it, but the general perception league wide is that Valdez has been top 10 pitcher for most of the last 5 years.

I have it as: 1st round grades (and within Lions reach so not Mauigoa) Fano, Freeling, Lomu, Miller. 2nd round grade: Iheanachor, Proctor, Tiernan And yes... I would pick Iheanachor and his learning curve risk over Proctor and his Aaron Gibson risk. But that's just me.

I saw a draft profile on him that listed his current weight at 369lbs. Not sure if that's what he actually weighed in at when he was at the NFL Combine. If it was, YIKES! Being in his draft offseason at that weight and not remaining at a playing weight of 350 give or take is concerning to me. I'd like to think going into the draft and certainly at the combine that'd he'd want to be in the best shape possible.

When your 3 big hitters are hitting .184 .200 & .184 with .631, .578, .591 OPS and 2 HR between them, you're going to be toast.

The staff is a bit overrated. Skubal is amazing, but Valdez is slightly overrated. He's solid, but people make him out like he is a top 10 in the league pitcher, he's not and never has been. Mize and Flaherty are crap shoots. They can be good but they can be Paddack-esque too. And Verlander was a pointless signing. I assumed he would suck and then they would just stick him on the IL whether he was injured or not. I assume they saw enough after one start to put that plan into action.

AT 350 he's super athletic - almost Sewell like. -they ran a screen for him also. At 400 not so much. If they take him, I have to believe they are confident he is motivated enough to stay there. As an outsider, I'd be more confident in Blake Miller, but they have a lot more info than me.

Agreed. And our hitting has lost a few games when we got good pitching but again, small sample size. Our lack of power is somewhat concerning, it reminds me of our start in 2024, when the whole team seemed to start the season in a slump. But I would take another finish like that season, when we came back like gangbusters.
