Whitmer won Michigan with a decrease in Dearborn voters. They turned against Whitmer due to homophobia. Even without Wayne County, she would have won. I don't think El-Sayed can win without Dearborn. It's also going to be hard to convince voters in the middle to vote for the defund the police guy.
-
It’s going to be a very close race. I question whether he can connect with enough of the voters in the middle that can be swayed. It may not be right and it may not be fair but his name is Abdul El-Sayed. That’s something that he’s going to have to get over in this state. History also tells us what happens when candidates count on the college and young voters in midterms. They don’t show up as much as in Presidential cycles. That’s a real issue for Abdul in tight race. I also fear that Trump will use ICE as a weapon in Dearborn and that will also have an impact on voter turnout. Those numbers will trend lower for any Democrat candidate so if Abdul is counting on Dearborn coming in huge that may have an impact.

Also, Bill Clinton never actually campaigned with Harris as far as I remember. El-Sayed sought out Piker for a campaign event.

I was wondering what the context for that was. Thank you. -
You're right, of course, that's her calculation, although he can never get there on his own. There would have to be some sort of putsch.
-
Or they had extra bonus money to offer him, just from having the high bonus pool and extra 5% overage, that they were able to give him another that teams at the some teams at the back end of the first round weren't able to match without blowing up picks later on.
-
just as an aside, I wouldn't compare going to interview shows run by people you may not like (Like Pete B to Fox) where you have a chance to reach an audience that you can't by other means, to campaigning with someone - it's a whole different order of magnitude of validation.

All great memories. So many games are memorable. The first JV no-hitter..the 2nd JV no-hitter....and about 50 other games....

He's that close to being president. He could order diet coke by pushing a button!

Horrifying

We may have gotten the comp sandwich pick as a consequence of our not-so-goodness, but point is, all 29 other teams had a crack at Kevin, so they could have seen the exact thing we saw. I would love to know what the thinking inside the office was when it came to this pick. Did they have their eye on Kevin the whole time and calculated that everyone else would pass on him because of his presumed price?

The gap between games once you start is pretty painful for me as well, especially in the early rounds. I wouldn't mind seeing them go back to five games in the opening round. -
On the one hand, I have to ask, is he the best she could do? On the other, if the Intertubes are to be believed, at $12 million, he's worth six times she is. Aim low, that's where you go.

A few months ago I did my column I write about ticket stubs. I just brought a bunch of ticket stubs I had, picked up random ones (from all the Detroit teams to some Toledo MudHen games), checked the results and seeing the box score sparked my memory of the game. One of them was a ninth-inning home run by Lou Whitaker for the win. I still don't remember going to this game. I don't drink so I have no excuse not to remember it. But, it was pretty cool to do that column and see some of the game I completely forgot about.

I mean, there isn’t evidence Clinton did it. These are things Piker actually said. You’re also ignoring everything else with El-Sayed from defund the police to people quoting his campaign over antisemitism.

You can make the argument McGonigle, or at least the pick he was drafted with, was a consequence of the team's downturn. It was a competitive balance selection, which you get if you are revenue sharing recipient. The first several years of this system (after the first), the Tigers were revenue sharing payees. That started changing in 2019 when the revenue sharing formula caught up to their dropoff. I honestly have no idea if things will turn back in the coming years taking that pick away or not. Anyways, the Tigers' competitive balance selections. 2013 (2nd round): Traded in the Infante/Sanchez/Turner trade. Received competitive balance 1st round pick (Corey Knebel) 2020 (2nd round): Danny Cabrera 2021 (1st round): Ty Madden 2022 (2nd Round): Traded with Isaac Paredes for Austin Meadows 2023 (1st round): Kevin McGonigle 2024 (2nd Round): Ethan Schiefelbein 2025 (1st round): Michael Oliveto

speaking of the Times. If anyone has the time (it's a very long read or listen) and access, the Ezra Klein inverview with Marc Lynch and Shibley Telhami (https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/14/opinion/ezra-klein-podcast-lynch-telhami.html) is worth the time to slog through - esp the discussion near the end about Netanyahu's desperation to complete his program before he loses Trump and thus probably US support. Especially if you are old enough to have memory of what Israel was in the days of Golda Mier and Abba Eban, reading this will disabuse you any idea that it's the same place it was then or - even 15 yrs ago for that matter. It seems the only thing either side in the Arab/Israeli conflict can do successfully is further radicalize its enemy to hate it even more - and Israel's current course will be no exception.

He not only was a light hitter, but he never walked either. I'm actually playing out the 1970s Tigers season right now (only 14 games to go) and gosh, I completely forgot about Gutierrez's 7-for-7 game. I wonder what he did for me in that game. I need to check it out. No one has been on a season-heater like Gutierrez has been in my replay. The guy has spent the season with an average between .285 and .295 most of the season. Every time it looks like he may fall, he has another 3-for-4 day. There have been games in the replay where he's been up in the eighth or ninth with the Tigers trailing and I "know" he would've been replaced for a better bat, but with the way he's hitting I keep him up. And it may have cost the Tigers a game or two. But, if he was batting .290 in 1970, I figure he wouldn't have been pinch hit for, especially with the pitcher spot coming up next in most instances. Why not just keep the guy that is probably going to swing at anything and maybe get an RBI-single? But, doing so, I know his card is pretty lousy, so I'm actually hurting the Tigers.
-
I was going to mention this. Even if Clark never gets a hit in the majors we owe getting McGonigle to Max taking less $$.
-
I don't know who "they" is, but in the myriad national podcasts/ outlets I read, some behind paywalls, I have heard 80 hit thrown around about him but don't remember by whom.
-
Yes, because any link will tell us the Trump administration always follow the rules.

the entire nba playoff schedule is painful. 7 game first round series are dumb. not having same-series games every other day is excruciating. -
There might be something to that ...

I thought he had a 70 hit tool? Did they upgrade him or did I misread that somewhere?
