Backup PF/C Logic: I want to see Stew and/or Reed eat up all the backup PF minutes. They're better equipped to guard Paolo, help us match Orlando's size, get offensive rebounds, and play defense. For that strategy I'm pairing up Ausar + Harris to come out earlier and then come back in when Cade + Duren sit. That gives Cade more time with Duren who relies on Cade for offense and more time with Green who can hit all those corner threes Tobias missed last game. It also gives Ausar more time with Stew who doesn't always clog the paint like Duren. And when Daniss comes in he'll have Harris and Ausar with him so he can defer to them and doesn't have to play hero ball. There, rotations are solved. Now someone send this to JB.

The way I see it there are two paths forward. One is to stay the course. Continue to introduce the kids gradually. Hope for incremental improvement until CCR (or I guess I should say CCCR) are off your books. Sign free agents to fill whatever gaps are left over and hope for the best. The other is to make your own luck, maybe on a reclamation project like EP40. As I said in another post, if they took the last two years of Compher and Rasmussen (maybe also Danielson or Kasper or a goalie), that would make the effective annual value of EP40 just under $9 million. If his knee is right, and his head got right playing with a bunch of fellow Swedes and freed from the Canadian hockey media that is often harsh with non-Canadian players, you could end up with another center capable of putting up Dylan Larkin numbers at effectively a Dylan Larkin salary. No, you would not be getting around the criticism that your team is soft, but yes you would be making a dent in the even strength scoring situation. But there are still a lot of years on that contract so your Swedish brain trust needs to be 100% sure that EP can be resurrected in Detroit.

I don't believe these reports that come out in the days prior to the draft. Hopefully the Lions did their homework on him and know what the severity of the injury is. Because we already have our chronically injured CB spot filled.

I had McCoy on my short list because he is the best corner in the draft IMO. But if he requires a second surgery, and that's going to keep him out, no thanks. I'll pass on him if that's the case. But Brad might not. Jamo, Levi, Paschal, Rakestraw all had injuries or prior concerns when Brad drafted them with high round picks. So I think if Brad feels McCoy is the best player on his board, at a position of relative need, he might take the risk. He'll get absolutely and rightly roasted if he does draft McCoy and it turns out that he requires a second surgery that keeps him out for at least month or more.
