  1. Past hour
  2. Anyone get their DOGE check or their tarrif refunds yet?
  3. I was painting some planters in the garage and listening to Dan and Dan. First time I've listened extensively to them this year. Right before McKinstry got picked off Dickerson was saying how he's able to get a big lead right now..
  4. So it's overdue. Both sides seem pretty dug in and prepared for a long battle. We'll see if it's all just bluster soon enough.
  5. I feel Torkelson certainly doesn't fit their approach. He is what he is: a .220-.230 hitter who can knock out 30+ homers. The approach that is preached hurts him. He needs to get up there and look for that first pitch fastball to try to hit it hard. I watch him take the first pitch right down the middle. There really is no purpose to doing that. He's in a 0-1 hole to start with. It's like a boxer who has the strategy of taking the first punch directly to the face without defending himself.
  6. Today
  7. There is also a scene from the R. Lee Ermy vehicle "Siege of Firebase Gloria" that is similar -- but too gross to show here. He's got the severed heads of two guys in his hands and he's lecturing the defensive perimeter that Corporal Miller (whose severed head is in his right hand being held by his hair) allowed the gun pit to be captured and that he no longer has any respect for Corporal Miller. Its a movie of course and for Vietnam era fodder a pretty decent B movie.
  8. international soccer. college basketball and football. i'm ok with that discrepancy. there are many ways to win in baseball. as i have argued before, baseball's financial system benefits the owners tremendously already, there is no need to change it. salary caps are stupid.
  9. He's going to be celebrated Fox News Weekend anchor and given several male prostitutes to serve as his sex thralls.
  10. Cleveland has the advantage against Detroit in offense, starting pitching, bullpen , defense, and manager. For like the 10th straight year.
  11. Holten and Vest are not who they used to be and the bullpen is now a big problem. The offense provides low scoring and the bullpen can't keep the razor thin margin from evaporating. Home runs do increase margins but we aren't getting any "Earl Weavers" so we are resorting to small ball but none of our players have the skill set to bunt or hit and run and our base running, once a strength, is killing us wether it's rookie mistake like Lee or a veteran like McStinky. Add in the defense and wow. The positives are Anderson looks like he might be a decent starter, Mize was sharp in his return, Melton should return on Sunday and Skubal by the end of June is realistic. If we can get some defenders back and shed the team of Workman, Short, Lee and Perez just maybe we can right this ship and salvage the season. But catching Cleveland looks very hard at this point being 8 down and the Guardians looking pretty solid. They won't help us by beating themselves. They are very well managed and coached.
  12. Also not a good sign that Vest's FB was down 2mph or a bit more from yesterday. Vest is not the guy we need him to be if he isn't dialing up 98mph consistently.
  13. Castle has 20 turnovers through the first two games.
  14. Some interesting calls and no calls in that one. No call on this one
  15. It's that time of year again. People who have no more info than us just come up with random thoughts and throw them out there as if they're news. At best it's floated by the agent to drum up interest. The next person to post it will say "rumored" and after a few of those we'll start seeing them say "sources".
  16. I really hope you're not trying to blame Hinch for Will Vest crapping the bed. If you're going to complain because Finnegan was used in the 5th inning, the bottom line is that it worked and the Tigers went to the 9th with the lead. Use someone else instead of Finnegan in the 5th and for all you know, the Tigers are down 3 runs in the bottom of the ninth.
  17. And the Pirates have won more games than the Mets this year. 😀 And Tampa Bay has won more than the Dodgers!
  18. but that's why baseball is so screwed up. The Dodgers or Mets don't care if they spend the money - it's not stupid for them, they can make it back, but Pittsburgh has to try to play on the same playing field. Is there any other sport with that kind of imbalance in the options available between the franchises?
  19. Baseball is all about gambling now and it's going to get worse. Maybe that's even worse than a lockout? That is where they make their money and they'll figure out how to get more of it into the sport and split up the money. I think there won't be a long work stoppage
  20. they could easily cut costs by not signing stupid free agent contracts.
  21. It's different this time. Baseball is not on very stable ground when it comes to media rights. Baseball has turned into an Old Guy sport. Younger people just aren't all that into it anymore. The complete disconnect with Black kids is a major problem, as you see fewer Black players. The fact that little league has lost it's innocence and just turned into a cash cow now doesn't help. I think the people in charge of baseball still think it's America's Past Time. Now, it's just passed it's time and it's on the downslope now. This thing hitting the concert industry right now (Blue Dot Fever), is gonna hit baseball too. Family of four - MLB game. $400 night, probably. You don't win fans over with that. Plus you take the fact that realistically 25 out of the 30 teams have no legitimate shot at a title and the game is in trouble. I got news for ya, once the new car smell wears off in Las Vegas, that's going to be a complete disaster. But some of these baseball guys still think it's bigger than football. Some of them are dillusional. That won't help. The players union chief getting in a stupid scandal just ahead of this probably won't help. This is going to be a mess. Like the NHL season we lost. Took of year of everyone being idle to realize they need to compromise. Same thing'll happen here.
  22. no doubt the injuries are the over all killer for total wins and losses, but recently there have been issues of basic execution by Riley, Tork, McK, Perez and on the pitching side Valdez and Flaherty. Those are your regulars - or close to regulars in Perez' case. It's like a contagion.
