  6. You and so many others! If we want to say that the person who paid $30 for a ticket to a college baseball or USPBL game has paid for the right to yell at an official (within reason), fine. Whatever. Those officials are pretty well compensated, and are experienced enough to know how to tune that out and know their “role”, so to speak. Call that “thick skin” if you want I guess. When we transfer that to youth ball though, we are removing a ton of smart young officials from an already limited pool of officials, because they (as a teenager) can’t manage being yelled at by adults (who they look at as authority figures). Something that has nothing to do with balls, strikes, safe, and out. They quit. Who can blame them?

  7. It’s funny you bring this up. I got the paw print from the cremation service today, and I had the same thought. Thinking of getting his print tattoo’d on my back, since I know my buddy always had mine.

  9. One thing that I always struggle with w/ self paced guitar stuff is that I never know if I'm ready to move to the next step, or if I'm belaboring a step too long. Coincidentally, I started taking a martial arts class, and there are a lot of interesting parallels esp around repetition to gain muscle memory. The approach in those classes is a lot of different small things to learn/memorize/commit to memory over a longer period of time, rather than complete step 1 with intense thoroughness, move to step 2... etc. I think lessons would be helpful because you have someone there that's taught dozens of people before and can probably accurately evaluate where you are and when to learn new stuff and how to get over your specific roadblocks.

  10. Lessons helped me a lot and I had already been playing for many years when I started them. I think they're worth the money if you're all in on learning to play. My lessons have made it much easier to pick up on free/cheaper content online too. I'd look for someone who will teach you about the instrument through learning songs, and not someone who will just teach you songs. I think mine are $35/half hour.

  11. My wife and I had kept up with The Walking Dead just to see it through but the episodes they released this time last year that were filmed during the pandemic were brutal. You could tell they were working around things, each one had just a few characters in it and most scenes were solitary. Last year the DVR recorded a bunch of old episodes and erased the newer ones and we never cared enough to go back and watch. There was too many other better things out there to take up our time But with there being a lull now and the fact they are coming up on the final shows we decided to give it another shot. The final episode of season 10 is very very good. Focuses on Negan and his backstory, which sounds very similar to what I heard was in the comics. Even if you quit watching a few seasons ago I would suggest finding that episode. It's mostly flashbacks.

  14. Hold on now. Do you remember the World Series home field advantage being based off of the all star gimmickery? Never put a bad idea in MLB's head.

  15. Like Biff, I also hate to get up from under cats. Especially when he's snoozing on my arm like this on the couch. I may someday have to get his paw print tattooed on my neck where his paw always rests.

  16. I agree. Calvin Johnson quit. I'm not sure what exactly the Lions were expected to do? What exactly have the Lions done so differently with Stafford? The ones heaping praise and throwing the bouquets seem to be the fans. Stafford asked for a trade and the Lions granted it. Johnson announced his retirement and the Lions asked him to pay back what he owed.

  17. Bottom line: Don't know. She may have pulled in some conservatives for him. And lost him some Independents. But Obama was going to wipe them off the floor regardless.

  18. I think she helped him because the conservatives really were not happy with his nomination. She drew in a lot of the people who later would make Trump the nominee. I remember listening to Hannity doing a bit on his show where he was pretending to like him but then took it all back. But her being on the ticket gave people like him the reason to get behind McCain. A lot of those people stayed home in 2012. After the war in Iraq pretty much any D would have won that year.

  20. I can live with..... - pitch clocks, because the modern Jeter-ization of batting routines was getting ridiculous, and requiring pitchers to stay in for 3 batters eliminates the modern overutilization of relievers. I'm also interested in... - trying to limit the overshift, because it's reinforcing the current no-balls-in-play K-or-HR aspect of baseball which makes it more juvenile and boring IMHO. I don't like.... - the universal DH, but that battle was basically lost decades ago. I absolutely HATE.... - the extra-inning baserunner thing; it was just an abomination, and reeked of the little leagues. I am very frightened of.... - the further expansion of the playoffs seriously threatens to ruin the UNIQUE value of baseball as a marathon season, which reinforces it's un-clocked/timeless/eternal aspect. Bottom line: baseball can be rough, mean, dirty, and childish, just like any other sport, but I **really** cherish the grown-up and contemplative part of baseball, which no other sport can touch.

  22. I keep checking this site to see if “we’ve got there yet.“ Whenever there is news it’s like being on a road trip in the backseat and dad pulls into McDonald’s and everyone gets excited and he buys a coffee for himself then drives away. There’s no good news.
