  1. Of course in the US we are assuming an administrative state which is turn held accountable to the public by the oversight of a democratically elected government. GOP is trying hard to fail on that score as well. An administrative state unmoored from pubic oversight is just the USSR.

  2. And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

  3. for me this is where the GOP completely falls off the rails on pure practical grounds. They have it exactly backward. It's funny to me that the GOP always used to call liberals 'ivory tower' and divorced from reality, but it's the GOP thought leaders today who apparently have no experience in how the real world works. Go to work for any big industrial corporation and it won't take long to understand that both civilized society and the planet will be quite doomed if the profit motive is allowed to run free without the administrative state at least trying to stand guard. Killing the admin state is a play for pure future disaster. The role of good government has to be to do your damnedest to make it work better, not constantly try to strangle it, and the GOP had been nothing but a hindrance to those efforts for 40 years now.

  4. We have very different views of Paredes potential. I would have pegged his top end at All-Star level, 5+ WAR, in the right system. Even in our minors, he had more than 1,000 at bats of wRC+ over 130, and he was winning Mexican League batting championships in the winter. Paredes spent years here showing us how good he could be. I never believed that even at his best, two years of Schoop was always going to be preferable to five years of Paredes, and I think that was the calculation, because I think the team believed that Candelario was going to long term it for us at third. I see this as yet another example of this Tigers regime failing to convert a position player to his potential. It’s been clear for some time that any position player who succeeds here is going to have to do so despite the Tigers’ efforts.

  5. On Saturday I overheard a 10 year old ask someone if they liked the band Imagine Dragons. Their response didn't matter as he had "imagine draggin deez nuts" was lock and loaded.

  6. https://www.mediaite.com/tv/jim-obergefell-justice-thomas-should-remember-the-right-to-interracial-marriage-is-only-6-years-older-than-roe/ Because hypocrisy always exists, this is my guess of what happens over the next 18 months with SCOTUS. Someone brings this interracial case up. This time though, instead of using the same argument, Thomas votes against it. Roberts, still pissed, gives no legal reasoning and just votes to overturn it. Thomas and his wife are no longer married, the Justice department forces them to testify against each other in a case that further implicates Trump. Thomas resigns and Biden gets a SCOTUS pick. Roberts pushes to hear cases that bring both abortion and interracial marriage up again and they revert both decisions. I'm like 80-85% certain that's what is going to happen.

  7. I'm looking forward to an Inside the Den style video that comes out after these hearings showing Bennie Thompson pounding the table when he gets a key witnesses testify and calling them up saying you ready to be a witness?

  8. As an old boss once told me. It's more about perception than anything else. GQOP is good about distortion. They are terrible when it comes to real solution for real people outside blaming Democrats.

  9. Dead & Co. ran up against the curfew at Wrigley Field this past Friday and didn’t play an encore. They also fittingly opened the show with “Man Smart, Woman Smarter” under a pink stealie banner with a save our rights fist.

  10. I don’t think any official government business should have any prayer attached to it, since we are technically a secular country, but that’s just a crazy idea I have.

  20. Mueller was about Russian interference and conspiracy to help them interfere in the US Election. From the wikipedia page on this...some interesting commentary George Croner of the Foreign Policy Research Institute has also expressed his concerns with what he describes as a "curiously flaccid" approach taken by Mueller in dealing with what the public would normally interpret as "coordination". He sees Mueller's dependence on a formal "tacit agreement" approach as "an overly cautious" and "legalistic construct": I think "Rusher, if your listening..." was bad enough.

  23. It certainly is hard to understand why they fall in love with some guys while short shrifting others. We gave Goodrum something like 1200AB. He averaged less than 1 WAR/season. Why? Willi Castro over 800, many in the IF, he's yet to break 650 OPS. OK, great, he now has a shortstop's arm in the OF, that's nice but not a luxury a team that can't hit can afford. These are the flip sides of the decisions that will have been responsible if Paredes ends up a bad miss. How many games did they give a hopeless case like Stewart?

  24. My biggest concern with Paredes was always the power aspect and the fact that he was already filled into his body I just didn't think it would ever come regardless of what his age was. If he was a big framed but skinny guy at 20 or 21 with no power you could project him filling out, getting stronger and thus hitting for power but Paredes didnt offer that projectibility so the fact he couldn't hit for power now just came across like it wasn't gonna be there. I still believeThere has to be some change to his approach or swing plane for him to magically go from a hitter with no power to suddenly crushing the ball in under a year with no body change. You don't just magically get stronger from 22 to 23. Like he may have had this untapped power the whole time but the Tigers preached plate discipline, taking pitches, putting the ball in play etc.which hindered his power ability but TB is telling him to just let it go and to jump on pitches at the expense of maybe making outs or swinging and missing.

  28. He can relax and enjoy playing again But the problem is that if he has this spark 20 games ago, they're not completely out of it now. Ryan Raburnitis/Tony Clarkitis. That illness that wows everyone with your talent when there is really nothing to play for but stats. April counts, boys.
