  1. I was piled on Twitter by a lot of the fanboy/fangirl for saying this last year, but an injury is the best case scenario for Cabrera. I reject the notion that he isn't blocking anybody. There's an outfield glut building, and if things go well you need a spot in the lineup for Greene, Tork, Carpenter, Baddoo, and Meadows. If the player dev machine picks up and there is somebody OPS-ing 1000 in Toledo, it hurts to not be able to give that person a chance because you have a sub replacement every day DH standing in the way. Oh yeah, the above happened with Carpenter this season, and he didn't get the chance until Cabrera was IL'ed.

  2. i'd pay to watch miggy bat one more time. and i agree with the posters who wrote that how you treat your icon players matters. you signed him to that stupid deal and now you have to live with it. besides, i'd rather see miggy bat and strike out than fawn all over the next mike laga and make excuses for the next five years when he cant hit.

  3. I think everyone, including Team Miggy, would be OK with an injury that cuts significantly into his playing time. I just want the Tigers to provide the guy with the opportunity to leave on his own terms.

  4. I can see honoring him for the last couple years of his career, but Cabrera has been replacement level for SIX years. Enough is enough. Cabrera was the greatest Tigers hitter I have seen in my lifetime and there are a lot of great memories. The last six years do not enhance that in any way. If anything, they take away from the memories.

  6. It's worth reiterating here that TV and radio stations are bound by FCC rule to offer political advertisers, including candidates, the lowest rate for a given daypart that any advertiser pays that station during the defined campaign season. That might make it sound like political advertisers get dramatic bargains when they buy time, but in reality, it's more of a boondoggle for the stations not because they offer candidates super-deep discounts on rates, but because they get to charge all the other advertisers elevated rates under the guise of not being able to offer their customary rates because it's running during "politicals". It's why we see almost 100% of prime-time local spots being political during the season: few other advertisers can afford to run at those elevated rates. So they either rush into other, cheaper dayparts; shake up their media or station mix for the time being; or just go on hiatus until it's all over. Steady advertisers like QSRs and dealer groups, who run promotional pillars basically 52 weeks a year and can't afford to go dark for even a week, simply budget double-digit CPP increases in the short-term and just deal with it.

  7. adios mexico!!! it didnt happen, but seeing mexico eliminated because theyre a bunch of dirty players would have been the chef's kiss to this world cup.

  8. Avila didn't reach for any picks. All the players he took were expected to be taken with the draft slot we were in. I think it was Brady Singer or Casey Mize, as an example. But yeah, fire Avila, dump all his picks/trades and start a new rebuild.

  10. If this was 2024 and we had to give that up to move up 1 spot to draft Caleb Williams I would strongly consider it just cause I think he is that special and a special qb is worth his weight in gold but this year I just don't see it with any of the guys. They COULD be special but I don't have enough faith to give up a bounty for them.

  13. This is going to be a very long winter if we have to keep revisiting Miggy's presence on next year's roster. It's happening, no matter how much grousing takes place.

  15. Miggy hasn't been the man since what...2016? My hope is that he hits well enough this year or gets so few AB's that he finishes with a .300 career BA. 500 HRs will be less of a milestone going forward, but hitting .300 seems to becoming more rare

  16. To be clear, I would prefer he just go out at this point. But there's no point in being bitter because he does have the contract and the new PBO has decided that he is willing to work with whatever constraints that come with carrying Miguel on the roster. As fans, that should be the beginning and end of it IMO.... Having said that, with this being his final season, I really hope he puts in the work over the offseason to try to maximize whatever he can bring to the team next year. It was really painful at times to watch him down the stretch last year and would like to see some magic one last time.

  17. here, here! I'm also part of Team Miggy, for the reasons you list. F the haters!

  18. I saw Miggy hit a HR last year and immediately got a little goose bumpy thinking "This could be his last HR here" or "I might have seen him hit the last HR in person".... things like that. If the team were in contention and winning games mattered to get into the playoffs, then yes, you could argue it's better to put a less crappy guy in the lineup. But he's not going to block anybody good with his at bats this season. Miggy is the best position player many of us have ever see in a Tiger uniform.

  19. Best part of that story is Joe Pepitone coming up after Mick and pointing out where he wanted the pitch and the pitch going right at his head and the entire Yankee bench laughing at him.

  20. Alabama has lost 2 games on the last play of the game on the road. Razor Thin. USC is in California and they're soft.......just soft.

  21. i think that's probably overrating touchdowns. but i dont know. i just think that's way too much for a rb who isnt a game breaking, field stretching nightmare. its really a shame swift is a pansy, cause he's such a great weapon for those seven or eight plays a year he isnt injured. i actually think the lions will take a running back this year because williams is a free agent and swift has hangnail issues.

  22. I doubt this place will make anybody famous! I don't view this forum as wide reaching social media. It would be good if grew some more, but if it got too big, I would probably not like it as much. I like that we all know each other a little bit. I agree the media should stop giving crazy politicians a lot of attention, but they won't because craziness gets them clicks.

  23. i remember stories about denny mcclain grooving a ball to an ancient mickey mantle who could barely hobble around the bases, much less play first base. people still talk about it and write stories about it. were people at the time clamoring for tony solaita or andy kosko and pissed the mick was blocking them? i'll take the half chance of seeing miggy do something cool. youre not going to tell your grandkids you saw willie castro hit a triple in a 6-2 loss in another meaningless september, but you might tell them about the time you saw the great cabrera hit one out just one last time.

  24. you can be bitter and upset about miggy being on the team, but i dont see the point in getting upset because an all time great in his last season is supposedly preventing some average player or below average lottery ticket from getting at bats. yes, i am old and crotchety and dont like "young people", why do you ask?

  25. I tend to agree on health care. That said our current Medicare system is completely F-UP. You almost need a masters in economics to figure out the health plans for anything beyond basic coverage. That whole system has turned into a big money grab for hospital systems and giant pharma. Nobody needs to be paying $2000 a month for prescriptions that may or may not help you in the long and have side effects that could possibly kill you in the end

  27. the simplest solution is for usc to win. im all for that. if usc wins and tcu loses and osu jumps tcu, THAT would be a travesty. i do not want to play osu again. and i dont think they deserve to be in.

  28. Lol. I’m saying how it’s going to happen and not what I think or want. These games still count. There are no freebies.

  29. they should make it. they shouldnt be penalized for a second loss in an extra game that osu didnt have to play.

  32. I agree with this, and I'm OK with Miggy coming back to the team as a special advisor to the CEO, or even as a bigger-than-life mentor to Latin players. Something ceremonial or low-level along those lines.

  33. How you treat your greats is part of what defines you as a franchise. You can't just euphemistically take Miggy out back and shoot him. He's earned the opportunity to say goodbye on his terms. Give him some AB's..put him on the DL if the knee flares up and hope that he's able to somewhat replicate his last decent year (2020) on his way out the door.

  34. Ewww... I hate that trade. As Buddha nicely put it earlier... I'll defer to people much more talented in prospect analysis than I am (ie, an actual NFL front office)... but at first blush... ewww. I give up a 12th over all and my first 2nd-round pick and wherever we land in 2024 to move up 3 spaces in the first round and 6 spaces in the second round? That just feels like WAY to much price for the small jumps.

  35. Not sure why I should care what some guy named Jimmy Dore thinks about any subject. It's nothing personal to him, but it's no different than how one feels about cable news and its pundits I could easily get the same kind of analysis sitting down at a local bar and talking to a stranger most likely. And it'd be more authentic because he wouldn't be monetizing it.

  36. Finally got me. Had a cough and runny nose, and started to feel achy last night. Took two positive rapid tests this morning. Nothing unbearable yet. The worst part is having zero energy.
