After having one season with a QBR over 60, net yards per attempt peaking in 2011, no season with a 3:1 TD/INT ratio, the Lions really need to draft a new QB. Stafford isn't the future. He's steadily declined four straight season even though the 4th season isn't a decline but is he really the future or is he just a product of having a hall of fame WR? You have these college QBs entering the draft like Jared Goff and Carson Wentz. If the Lions really want to compete, they should draft Goff and have him sit behind Stafford for a year or two. Stafford is due for an extension soon and he just hasn't proven he can win or be good without Calvin Johnson who just retired.2 points

I have been watching Ohio State reaction videos of their fans watching the Michigan game. If find great joy in it.2 points

He wanted to play for a contender, which is why he left the Astros.1 point

the true narrative is that you need better players to win in football. if the lions think they can upgrade their qb position (the most important position) in the future through a high pick in this year's draft, they should do it.1 point

With payrolls going up and seemingly going to continue to rise I don't think big market teams are as concerned about "regretting" deals 6 or 7 years down the road. For instance by that time its very likely SF may have near a 300 million dollar payroll if they keep projecting upwards and even if Correa is an albatross by then he would still only represent like 10% of their payroll. Having that percentage of dead weight isn't nearly as debilitating as say having 30 million on a 150 million like we were with Miggy.1 point

You use Matthew Stafford as a baseline and compare everyone to him. It also helps if you constantly regurgitate stats from 2017 & 2018.1 point

If you're not looking south, I'm assuming cold weather isn't a deterrence? Midland, MI is a college town, good business community, a small center for the arts, a fortune 500 company that makes it very diverse ethnically, & yet not TOO big. Plus you have the added bonus of being within driving distance of a HUGE number of morons.1 point

No, I wouldn't want to do that. We are just in a unique situation this particular year given all the draft capital we have to make a move that nets us both an elite defender and starting QB on a rookie wage scale. I trust Brad Holmes and I am all for keeping Jared Goff at this point if that's what the front office and coaching staff decide. He's played well enough to stick around. It is just food for thought to think of other scenarios like this.1 point

The free agent market next year stinks apart from Ohtani who will be a Met for 500 million over 12 years. . He will speed past 400.1 point

Really, if both ERod and Javy opt out, added to Miggy coming off the books, they have zero excuse not to spend next offseason. That's, like, $75 million dollars lol1 point

The press secretary using the Hatch act to state she can't give the Biden administrations thoughts on returning stolen money. That's priceless.1 point

We probably 6 or 7 top line guys to compete for a divisional championship in the AL Central. To get a sure thing first string player today one is looking at an eight year commitment at 20 mil per season per player minimum. We would need a 140 million dollar per year increase in the payroll per year committed per year for the next 8 years or an additional 1.2 billion dollar payroll commitment additional to cover the next 8 years. Or in other words, for 280 to 300 million a year, assuming no injuries and no screw-ups choosing your free agent signings, you get maybe 3 or 4 shots at the crap-shoot known as the World Series. That's probably where the free agent market is today.1 point

You know who else saw a decline in QBR after peaking early? Matthew Stafford. In 2011 his QBR was 60.5. It didn't reach above 60 until 2016. It bottomed out at 44 in 2014, which ironically was the one year Stafford made the Pro Bowl. Stafford has never had a 3:1 TD/INT ratio in a full season. I also find it interesting that Goff's INT rate declined immediately upon leaving the Rams and Stafford's INT rate was the second highest of his career in LA. Maybe there is something about that Rams offense. When Stafford peaked in 2011 he was 23. When Goff peaked in 17 and 18 he was 23-24. When Stafford got back to a plus 60 QBR, he was 28. Goff is now back to a plus 60 QBR at age 28. What happened when Stafford turned it around at age 28? Jim Bob Cooter became offensive coordinator. What happened when Goff turned 28 and turned it around? Ben Johnson became offensive coordinator. We can look at net yards gained per attempt. Stafford peaked in 2011 (which is still lower than Goff's peak) declined and hit bottom in 2018. Goff's career high would be higher than Stafford's career high and Goff's current net yards gained per attempt currently would be the 3rd highest of Stafford's career. Goff's QB rating dipped below 90 once to 86.5. Stafford's dipped below 90 following that 2011 season for three seasons in a row bottoming out at 79. It's also not 4 years of decline. It's 3 years since Goff is reverting back to his 17-18 self. I know KL2 is absolutely salivating to rip this apart. I'm simply illustrating that there is precedent for a QB to peak early, decline, and peak again. The career arc of Stafford and Goff are remarkably similar. Goff actually showed two seasons of high level play before declining whereas Stafford had one. The decline and resurgence are at the same ages and they both coincide with offensive coordinator changes.1 point

Yes. Out of 8 billion people on the planet, there are at most 15 better shortstops. If Baez leaves, the 2024 SS will probably be a downgrade.1 point

it was always hard to determine PV of Lindor's deal as a huge amount of money was deferred - $50M (5 each year); Lindor will collect his last $5M in 19 years. Or 6 years after they are done paying Bobby Bonilla. in 14 years of free agency, Correa will get $385.1M. Boras gets it done again.1 point

I wish I could bet that Correa won't play more than 110 games for at least 8 of those 13 years. I'll be 72 when this contract is done, but I could make some money. And meanwhile, not sure we can sign Seth Lugo and at third base it's Kody Clemens/Brendon Davis. and we get to see which Meadows brother stays on the roster, plus we have a guy named Bligh. Weeeeeee ! Gonna lose at least 102 next year.1 point

Should be fun at the next CBA and listening to owners cry and complain about some of these long term deals that they cannot resist offering.1 point

This was a distraction attempt by him. The home insurance market is crumbling, and he brought the legislature together in a special session to rewrite the laws and make sure if the crumble continues it is the homeowners who suffer, not the companies that bribed him. Almost all of his big shows of idiocy are done while he and his cronies in legislature are doing something particularly evil to screw over the people.1 point

Hendon Hooker is pretty much undraftable. He turns 25 next month and will miss most of his rookie season rehabbing a knee injury.1 point

a healthy swift has made a big difference for this team. i dont know if corum is as talented as swift. that said, im not opposed to the lions taking a running back after seeing how well the offense runs with multiple good backs in it. and if swift cant stay healthy, they're going to need another playmaker back there.1 point

Goff reminds me of Doug Fister. Doesn't have overpowering stuff and when he was on Seattle had a terrible W-L record, but on a good team he was very effective.1 point

Bryce Young is the only QB I'd be interested in this year. CJ Stroud isn't that mobile & doesn't do all that great a job getting out of pressure .. at least he hasn't against Michigan's D in the last 2 years. I'd go DL with the Rams pick - CB with ours - then fill in the LB/OL/RB positions. At the risk of sounding like a homer, I would love Blake Corum, because I think his running style fits what this offense is already doing with Swift, when Swift is healthy.1 point

I started getting a flu shot a few years ago. It was 100% based on science. Girlfriend said, "Hey, you need to start getting a flu shot." Years of research and experiments have made me come to the conclusion that doing what she says equals a happier life for me.1 point

Oh, last year happened, it was a tragedy of errors and happenstance. All I've been saying is at least give the new guy a chance to get his feet wet. Additionally, some think buying players is the endall, but filling the pipeline and player development is absolutely the essence of a successful franchise.1 point
