Getting back to investing... Treasury Direct still works. You can make 130 or so bucks a month on 40 grand, which is better than cash. 4 week T-bills.

Interestingly, about an hour after I posted this, I went to my favorite local market to pick up some milk and eggs and they have a new cash only policy. They also have stopped selling lottery tickets (a great move as far as I am concerned!). I am not sure if that is related.

This will not make fees go away, just lower them. Our pricing model includes CC fees in it. So yes, a lower fee for us is a lower price for our customer.

I think the frustration is that fans like to see transactions, just for the sake of making them. That's what makes the offseason more palatable. The guy's hands are tied--we really don't have many players with trade value. I would be onboard with moving some of our young pitchers, i.e., Jobe, Madden, etc..if we can get a position player who is major league ready and can contribute in the long term. Honestly, I wish we had made a few of those moves when Tork, Mize, etc... were in the minors and their trade value was sky high. It's hindsight now, but I don't think we should be shy about moving a prospect if it will help us in other areas. I agree that we need to give Harris some time. Like it or not, this is a 3 year plan now (at least).

What is he supposed to do? He's inherited an organization that is the genesis of that formula. Even if he intends to change it, how much can be done in a year? They have hardly any areas of strength to trade from aside from a few prospects. Maybe trade away Jobe for someone closer to mlb ready but otherwise I don't see the point in trading a way prospects to turn a 66 win team into a 72 win team. What kind of trades do you think they should make? They need to build talent and value from somewhere and since they aren't a current player for free agents they have to be scrappy on the waiver wire, draft, develop and make smart trades of players when they are at their peak value (I'm sure you've noticed there aren't too many players on the current roster that fall into that category). I'll withhold my frustration for a later date and let Harris have at least a year before I call for his head

LOL - all the credit card co rep is saying if you cut *our* profits, we will be less likely to run bonus programs - nothing in the legislation bans anything except the ability of the current operators to keep out competitors, which will likely reduce the size of the credit card surcharges current operators get away with. And the idea that it would help big retailers more than small is counterfactual. It's small businesses and low margin businesses that don't want you to use your credit card today because the surcharge, as evidenced by where you find cash discounts offered. I know he is doing a lot of behind the scenes work, but unless Harris has 3-4 trades lined up, his plan seems to be: 1) crossing his fingers on regression to mean for all the underperforming guys; 2) leaving at-bats available for young guys; and 3) maybe picking up guys from the trash heap who might surprise with 1+ WAR. this is a strategy that Avila would have been ridiculed for, and rightly so.

The fact we have January football that counts is a HUGE to me. The needle is moving that right direction and Holmes is buidling a sustainable future. I am happy with that for now.
