  2. I'll give Yooper a break because of the state in which he lives, but I doubt it's as easy as pulling a lever in the Secaucus utility closet.

  3. Coaching matters in the playoffs a lot more. So it doesn't matter to the Pistons I guess.

  5. hollinger: What’ so wild about Detroit acquiring Wiseman is that the Pistons already have a young, promising center from the University of Memphis. Jalen Duren is barely 19 — nearly three years younger than the “prospect” Detroit acquired — and is already a better player. You have your center of the future, Detroit! You don’t need another one! The other bizarre part is that the Pistons didn’t trade Alec Burks or Bojan Bogdanović, apparently eyeing a sharp move up the standings a year from now. Whatever you think of how realistic this approach is, the cognitive dissonance here is jarring. I’m sorry, but, “We’re trying to win next year,” and, “We traded Saddiq Bey for James Wiseman,” are not compatible statements. Even if Bey isn’t a long-term starter, he was much more likely to help next season, costs half as much and doesn’t overlap with two other good young players at the same position. Oh well. As long as Isaiah Stewart gets shoehorned into more minutes as a pretend four, I’m happy. Wiseman has shown some improvement in Golden State, but the basic issues of hands, awareness and feel are never really going away; most analytic methods still rate him among the league’s least effective players. For the rest of this season, at least, he’ll be an elite tank commander, but asking next season’s coaching staff (whomever it is) to win immediately will result in Wiseman on the end of the bench by Thanksgiving. In the meantime, if the Pistons weren’t keeping Bey, this was a major missed opportunity to get a return on a rotation-caliber young player with a good contract.

  6. I would have just taken over the balloon's communication capabilities and played some Kool and the Gang back up to the satellite that was controlling it.

  7. I think Biden is doing a fantastic job. Old Sleepy Joe (OSJ) is exactly what we needed after the chaos of 2017-2021. The only "scandals" are some shit about his son that happened a long time ago, and really isn't much of a scandal, the whole balloon thing, well, he shot it down, Trump did not - 3 times. To me, that whole nonsense is more Spy vs. Spy than anything else (if you are young look it up) and really, to me the biggest scandal, if you can call it that, is the airline computer meltdown, but I don't really blame Joe or Pete for that. Inflation? Well, that's a worldwide problem. And it's funny...........most people want a higher wage and want people to get paid better...........and to ween ourselves away from relying on Chinese goods. Well, OSJ is making those moves, but since we actually try to pay a reasonable wage for manufacturing in this country, if you want to shut out China, it's going to cost you more for the products. And I find it ironic that the guy who bitched about Old Sleepy Joe the and gave him the nickname is only 3 years younger and will be older than Biden in 2024 when he runs for President, than Biden was in 2020. Isn't it ironic? Yeah, I really do think. Plus he is surgical with this Social Security/Medicare issue. Even Mitch McConnell is siding with him on that. I'll take Old Sleepy Joe over Con Man Game Show Host who is not a Billionaire any day. I knew he was a fraud back in the 80s. He was just an annoyance then.

  8. I understand there is a photo from the cockpit of a U2 with the balloon in the background that some U2 pilot became a legend for taking.

  9. BTW, was reading about the description of the Chinese balloons. A lot of antenna rays looking for signals, powered by solar panels. I immediately thought of the stories about FCC vans driving thru neighborhoods back in the day looking for pirate radio stations, or 12 year old boys (mostly) who had their own radio setup (enhanced from a store bought kit). The fact that once the balloon was spotted and we tracked them using our own spy planes probably gave us more knowledge than shooting it down in the middle of Nowhere, MT

  10. The platforms for the most part really aren't "news" imo... they are basically tools for big content generators (ie. In the news space, local and national news outlets, journalists, etc.) to more broadly disseminate their message, and for non-content generators, they are a big news aggregator. Not unlike Facebook or Reddit or other sites, just in a different format. The question then becomes, should these platforms have any discretion in what is disseminated on their platform. Seems like the answer should be yes.

  11. I'm tired of the right wing acting like the Founding Fathers are some divinely inspired group who are infallible and should serve as a template for issues 250 years later. we're spending people back to the moon next year and have probes in the far reaches of our galaxy but we're supposed to listen to some old white dudes who lived before we had electricity.

  15. I'm all for that too. When is it going to start? *** I'm just catching up here, been busy. I've just read about 5 pages of people arguing about how to control news/speech/information - call it what you want. Someone above posted a picture that showed around 75% of our people get their news from a social media site (if I read it correctly). Then people argue about who it should be and how. Why? What's wrong with many forms of information? If you don't want to read it, don't. If you don't believe it, fine. Go where it makes you feel happy I guess. This started about the Twitter files - it doesn't matter who the people were who exposed them - or the venue that it has been disseminated through. Cast all that aside, there are over 600 screenshots of internal documentation of some really bad shit. Things that should concern all Americans if they care about the rule of law and the corruption that goes on. And it ain't about dick pics.

  18. Twitter isn't the big dog in news distribution among social media. It's at best in 3rd place but more realistically 4th place. Your conflating of followers with users (and humans) is woefully uninformed. Small groups of private citizens decide talking points all the time. Furthermore, hunters lap and laptop still remained a talking point regardless of what twitter did, because a small private (pun intended) group of citizens at news Corp and and rudi made it a talking point. Your selective outrage is hilarious.

  19. Nazis gotta be heard too. The GOP wants Nazis and penises to have a seat at the table. They get mad if a cereal commercial shows gay people though. Or drag queens reading books. Ban books about Hank Aaron and Rosa Parks. They are also upset at Disney for going woke again. Something about song of the south.

  22. The Detroit Swimmobile ! Both my parents worked so I stayed with my Gramma during the week in the Summer. She lived on Tappan street near Van Dyke & Lynch. The Swim Mobile would come around a couple times in the Summer and it was a HUGE HUGE deal. Probably a Petrie dish of disease and kid pee, but it was the 70s and NOTHING could kill us !

  23. Yeah the NBA has pretty much become unwatchable. Add in the NBA has a higher Diva per capita than any other league, and it is just becoming insufferable.
