  2. Anzalone contract notwithstanding, this has been a good free agency for Holmes. He has been more aggressive than past offseasons but not reckless.

  4. I think I respectfully disagree RE Anderson. If you eliminate QBs from the discussion, I see a large gap between Anderson's ceiling and the next best player in this draft (probably Bijan or Tyree Wilson). People seem to have forgotten just how dominant Anderson was in 2021... 101 tackles, 31.5 TFL, and 17.5 sacks, largely while being doubled in the SEC West. If he had repeated that in 2022, he would have been the undisputed #1 overall prospect. There has almost been a staring effect on him, where he has been considered a top draft prospect for so long that so-called experts manufacture flaws. Carter's ceiling is closer to Anderson than either Bijan or Wilson, but I think his floor is so low (as well as the problems discussed ad nauseam) that will be removed from the board altogether. As for the Lions, I do think they would seriously benefit by having an elite edge rusher across from Hutch. Hutch was the most double teamed edge in all of football last year. I loved Houston's production as much as the next guy, but I don't think you let a 6th round rookie who flash-bangs onto the scene for five or six games stop you from taking an elite presence. There are even some 3rd down formations where you can justify putting all three of Hutch, Anderson, and Houston on the field at the same time and letting one of them (probably Hutch) send a delayed bullrush from the inside. If you've got the talent they'll find their way onto the field. I think a Hutch/Anderson combo would be take over some amount of games though. I don't want to sit at #6 and "settle" for a second tier talent, when getting a top tier talent is within reach. I don't think Holmes will either, if he sees the board that way.

  6. Yes, and the Lions shouldn't draft us either.

  7. They should draft Carter at 6 and immediately send him on a 3 day darkness retreat to cabin in Oregon. That should fix everything.

  11. Anderson came in at 6’ 3 1/2” / 253 lbs. at the combine, which was +10 lbs. from his listed weight at Alabama. Even assuming he downed a couple gallons of water before stepping on the scale, I’m not too worried about his size.

  12. Except Jamaal. I don’t know why, but I have a picture in my head of Jamaal standing on one side of the bargaining table doing his signature hip thrusts and saying, “Come on Mr. Brad, let’s get it done,” and Holmes looking unimpressed.

  14. I think a lot of us here have strong opinions that Montgomery will be better - possibly a lot better - behind a substantially better offensive line. 201 carries for 801 yards and 5 TDs isn't that amazing when compared to Jamaal's 262 carries for 1066 yards and 17 TDs... If Montgomery comes here and puts up 801 yards and 5 TDs in Jamaal's role, I think that will be disappointing and those grades will be appropriate. But if he can gain an extra yard or two per carry behind this offensive line, like the missed tackle rates suggest is possible, it's a different story completely.

  19. Well, sure... but if we traded Swift then our running backs would be: And clearly having the ability to refer to our RBs with a defunct retail's name is more important than having a good team, so... get it do Holmes!

  20. Generally, I subscribe to this belief. That said, I don't foresee Swift receiving an extension. If they do take a running back in the draft, they'll have $6MM or so plus a rookie contract on the books for the next three years. That's not the "paying running backs" that a team should stay away from.

  21. Montgomery was near top of the league in broken tackles, his OL was near the bottom of the league in protecting him from contact after scrimmage. Just 1.19 yards before contact for his carries.

  22. Bears fans are the worst. They think their team is so good and better than the Lions despite finishing 6 games behind the Lions.

  23. Next on the list is either re-signing Chark or signing his replacement. I would also like the Lions to consider signing Robbie Gould as I'm not confident in Badgely.

  28. I had a fast car and I used to drive pretty hard but ironically (and mostly luckily) enough I always ended up with the car under control after someone else's accident. Funniest one was one night late coming back from A^2 as a student I had gone via Brighton (the current southern route of I96 wasn't in yet) and I was on Grand River instead of I-96 and all of sudden there are headlights on the ground in front of me. A guy had fallen asleep at the wheel, careened off the FW and rolled over ending up with his car upside down on GR Ave right in front of me. The guy was just crawling out of the window (had used his seat belt!) - seemed to be alright. I put a warning flasher I had on the car and drove the guy - 35ish upperclass by all appearance - over to the Mobil station that used to be at KentLakeRd. So the funny thing was when the State Troopers showed up they immediately start interviewing me - the long haired scuffy looking kid, about how I totalled my car. I took it as one of the great moral victories of my young life to be able to point the cops across the room to my rescued Yuppie. So maybe Carter is alright....maybe.

  30. FWIW, I don't think it's Sheila that is the primary concern with taking Carter, I think it's Dan, his staff, and the locker room culture he has assembled of no-nonsense, hardworking, kneecap biting football dudes. They're two years into this complete tear down and rebuild, and the rebranding of the Detroit Lions is still a work-in-progress until substantial and tangible differences are seen (e.g., winning a playoff game)... I don't think they are to the point of the Steelers or Patriots, where they can take a Jalen Carter and know that no matter what happens, the culture you've instilled will withstand. In New England and Pittsburgh, the culture and winning ways have been around since before Carter was born and - so long as Belichick and Tomlin are there - will still be there if Carter has to get labeled a bust and cut by 2026. In Detroit, if Carter is toxic to locker room morale, it could be a substantial flaw in what is being built... That's kind of the way I think Allen Park is looking at it at least. It's not exactly the Ford family's MO to sign character concerns, but I get the impression that SHF would not stand in the way of drafting or signing a player who doesn't piss sunshine and rainbows, if that's what Dan and Brad think is best.

  31. Last has exactly the correct term: "Serious People" I think affluence has left us with too many millions in this country that span from the boomers right down to the millenials who have led such sheltered lives, whole lives so protected from consequences, who've had somebody else ffollowing behind them to clean up all the messes they have made in lives, devoid of any need to actually consider that actions have outcomes, that they simple don't qualify as serious people. And they make bad voters.
