  1. Met Dave Bergman several times, had several more than casual conversations with him as well. IMHO, he was always professional. Also, FWIW, Sparky liked him a lot and he played for him for quite a while - we all know that/his old so said quote (perhaps myth, lol) 'My way or the highway' so it seems 'Bergy' was good to be around from that perspective as well.

  2. My favorite giveaway memory...A few years ago I happened to go when they were giving away Miguel Cabrera picture frames and since I always get there early I got one. Honestly, I didn't really want one. So, on the way out after the game I saw a kid about 7 years old, asked him if he wanted it, and made him promise to be a Tiger fan forever. He was THRILLED and I enjoyed that more than having it sit on my shelf somewhere. I did absolutely love my replica '68 jersey. That was a great giveaway.

  5. and no BREAKING NEWS sounder. Some News Directors have been fired by Corporate for not using BREAKING NEWS almost every newscast, whether the story warranted it or not. Ann Arbor Schools firing their Superintendent, to me, is not BREAKING NEWS (whooooshhh)

  6. Torkelson leads the majors in scoops by a lot: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?pos=all&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=y&type=0&month=0&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=&enddate=&season1=2023&season=2023&sortcol=15&sortdir=desc&pagenum=1 What this doesn't show is exactly how many opportunities he had to make scoops but failed, although I assume those would show up as errors much of the time. What it probably does show is that he had a lot of opportunities and was successful many times.

  7. Is there a stat that shows how good a first baseman is at picking bad throws? It would be helpful in evaluating Torkelson's defense.

  8. Yes but any decent first baseman makes that catch.

  9. A MLB first baseman should be able to dig a ball out of the dirt. I've lost count of how many times Tork has muffed a less than perfect throw this season.

  10. Probably a case where he is just now seeing his performance rise to where his grade and rankings were set. Put another way, he's been on most of the Top 100 lists for a while now, and he's just now starting to perform like one.

  11. I think it sets a bad precedent to allow him to submit his own vital statistics. What other detainee would be allowed to do that? But more than that, he’s testing them: if they let him slide on the little things to start with, he’ll start sliding on successively bigger things. Before long he basically becomes the one calling the shots. That’s the strategy, anyway. They have to put a stop to that now before it gets away from them.

  12. Unemployment 3.5%. Under 4% for 17 months in a row. 12 million new jobs created. Never done in a four-year term A boom in the manufacturing and infrastructure sector. Something that not only helps the economy but makes us safer overall. Growth is up and continues, outpacing all predictions, and this is coming form conservative economic media. Inflation has gone down 12 months in a row. We now have the LOWEST inflation of any G7 country and the high inflation was not his fault (nor was it Trump's), it was a worldwide issue because of the pandemic. Real wages are up. GOD DAMMIT, DEMOCRATS, YOU NEED TO BE CHAMPIOINING THIS GUY INSTEAD OF BITCHING ABOUT NOT GETTING EVERYTHING YOU WANT IMMEDIATELY ALL THE TIME. Sure, Gramps is old. Probably needs a nap. Studies have shown that taking a midday nap INCREASES overall productivity and helps the brain reset.............AT ANY AGE. Sure, he stumbles over words at times. He's done this since he's been in public office over 4 decades, this is nothing new He's not colorful. He doesn't tweet in all caps. He doesn't go around calling everyone names all the time. He doesn't sulk when someone doesn't like him. He calls a political opponent when they have a medical episode to ask if they're alright, not to poke fun at them for having a crisis. He's boring. He's surgical. GIVE ME BORING EVERY.SINGLE.DAY He's done a GREAT JOB. (but what about those drag queens...........). JOE IN '24, BIG GRETCH IN '28 !!!!!!!!!!!

  16. While the weight thing is highly questionable (ok, improbable), what made me laugh out loud was the description of his hair color as “blonde, or strawberry”. Wait, what? ….. What is this?? - a Miss Universe pageant? 😂

  18. I won't come back though - it's obsolete. The problem is the audience that created the demand that kind of quality news has left live television for other news sources and is never likely to go back.

  20. Just a little perspective. The guy lived our dream. He played for the Tigers. We're just sitting here banging away on keyboards chatting about him.

  21. It's helps to understand and acknowledge that, with a few exceptions, most of the party tends to approach policy by starting from a conclusion (ie. whatever points them at odds / against their political enemies) and working backwards, when thinking in terms of policy requires the inverse of starting from a place of factfinding and working toward a conclusion. And if you're starting from a conclusion and working backward, you are never going to exhibit anything resembling ideological consistency.
