  1. I think another issue was that no one would call their teammates out for actions like Gibson and Morris because they would be ostracized. It was probably the same reason why UM, Penn St, OSU, MSU coaching staff who knew what was going on with their doctors/training staff pretended it wasn't happening--it was the good ole boys network. Entitled people know they can get away with stuff and they will not face any consequences. Basically, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

  2. Happens every year... Toledo isn't in a playoff hunt and they didn't want to disturb the levels that are.

  3. Mahomes needs to be told that he's massively underpaid. He definitely needs a bigger contract. He should hold out.

  4. Part of the risk for anyone trading for him was the lack of innings pitched/season heading into this season. The Tigers traded him at 105 2/3 IP. He hasn't pitched over 100 at the MLB level since 2015. Stamina for August/September was going to be questionable even if he does keep himself in good shape.

  5. Every time I see a post like this, I think of the part of Life of Brian where one of his 'followers' says that people must 'follow the gourd!' And as funny as that movie was, it's not what I want to picture as my government.

  6. Here is an interesting thing I noticed. It does appear as if Al Avila didn't like to claim players on waivers if it meant dropping somebody from the 40 man. Of his 18 claims, only three involved removing somebody from the roster. It is like the organizational edict was to only shop the waiver wire if there was room on the roster.

  7. First game of the season, this soon after the injury with a mini-bye, I’d sit him. Why risk it. I’m definitely not biased on this either.

  8. Given Moseley’s lack of any meaningful preseason action, I would probably prefer Jacobs anyway, at least to give Moseley another 10 days to get his legs under him. Jacobs played well enough down the stretch last year. Certainly not shut down, but he held his own.

  9. Like a former US President who was the "star" of the bench of that baseball team.

  11. he and Alvaro Gonzalez both moved to Toledo because, to be blunt, they are not priorities so no concerns about how moving them will effect their development

  12. I’m like a kid on Christmas Eve. Except instead of going to bed tonight I’m going to get on a plane to the North Pole and get to see first hand whether I get a ton of presents or coal. And one of Santa’s top coal producing elves is holding out for a better contract and another injured their knee yesterday.

  14. Definitely could care less how they win. Its a long season and any W, especially against the Super Bowl Champs, is huge. Every game matters in the NFL. Look at last year with all those close game L's in the beginning of the season resulting in us missing the playoffs by 1 game. Injuries are part of the game and a reason why its so hard to win it all in the NFL. Its still crazy to me that KC won it all last year with the injury to Mahomes. That makes me think he will have a ridiculous game tomorrow because this kid steps up when you think there is no way.

  15. my entire history as a lions fan tells me that if the chiefs were without all those guys, the lions would find a way to lose. especially if the playoffs were on the line. lol.

  16. I am back to 1987 now, that's the next previous occasion to Jamie Johnson. Bernie Anderson, age 23, drew 114 walks for High A Lakeland. Another little guy, no power, no demon on the basepaths, and after catastrophic failure at AA for the next 2 years he disappeared.

  17. The return that the Nationals received for Candelario removed any concerns with non-tendering him for me. He was always going to be a stopgap that would have been traded at the deadline. Yes, we missed his production for four months, but his destiny was always to be shipped. Next!

  18. We fans think of injuries as part of the game, and they are, but it can make us take for granted the physical, mental, and emotional demands they place on players. I tip my hat to these guys who make it back from injuries. Nothing in life is given, certainly not the right to play a sport at the highest level. I admire Levi’s determination to return.

  19. I will never voluntarily pay or use points on first class unless it’s cross country for those reasons. Preferred is good enough for me. On one of my recent flights they kept the partition open and we were using that bathroom since it was closer for us. It was right between the two seating areas I was in the second row of preferred. Nobody told us not to. Usually what happens is I book our flights regular and then a month later I will upgrade. Once I put out $600 originally another $200 the following month, or miles, doesn’t seem like much. I fall for it. The extra legroom alone is worth it to me. The free drink is a bonus but not a deal breaker usually.

  20. I never understood this mentality from fans. I couldn't care less if they beat them with or without Jones and Kelce as long as they get the W. People could put all the asterisks they want on it, doesn't mean jack to me, just be 1-0 after Week 1.

  21. The way society in general treated women even up until maybe 10 years ago is eye opening. That includes not just people who did or said the things but those who laughed or let it happen without comment.

  22. I agree if Jeimer did play at 2022 levels, many of those posters might have said Harris dodged a bullet by getting rid of him. But Harris didn't dodge any bullets because Jeimer was much better.

  23. I developed this hypothesis during the last few years in which I wonder whether the reason there were so many working- and lower-middle class kids in my Catholic schools in the 1970s is because of the threat of busing back then. When I went to my 40-year high school reunion a few years ago, I was struck by how many people there graduated and never went to college and instead went directly into a blue collar work life. Even now I remember a lot of kids back then spent half the school day at SEOVEC, which was a vocational center for high school age kids. Vocational careers are super important and a vital lubricant of the industrial-, service-, and care-based economy and to society at large, and people in them are, in many cases, angels on earth for the work they do. That said, I can't imagine many parents paying five figures a year for Catholic school tuition today and being perfectly content with their kids graduating directly into blue or pink collar work.
