  1. Bar hopping until 3ish, tailgating until 6ish, then to the game. It’s the way God intended.

  2. I don't ever want to see my favorite team sign players in order to trade them later. That is a loser philosophy. I wanted Candelario on the Tigers because I thought he would make them a better team. Trading players at the deadline is a consolation prize. It should not be the goal. It turns out that he would have made them a much better team. he has 4.4 WAR this year. The Tigers combined WAR is -2.0. That is a 6.4 WAR difference. That has the same value as adding a star to your line-up.

  6. We haven't had a good Dad Joke in a while At a funeral a man says to the widow, "Mind if a say a word?" "Not at all,” she says, “please do." He stands up, clears his throat, and says, "Comprehensive," then sits down. She responds in tears, "Thank you. That means everything."

  10. Hey NY, I am of a similar mindset, and excited about a real possibility for a W. Even if they lose, I got to remind myself of 2 things: Last years Buffalo game. No one expected us to play within one completion of a tie game. Joseph misses breaking up that pass by inches and Buff kicks the game winner. Despite the L, I loved that game. Last years finale against GB. Eliminated from playoffs, national spotlight, cold weather and we still kick Rogers to the curb. Those 2 games for me have me believing these are not the SOL. Can't wait!

  11. Just don't hurt me again Lions, that's all I ask. I expect a loss tonight but I do expect the Lions to give the Chiefs a good game. They don't NEED to win tonight but they NEED to have a good showing after they've been touted as the new darlings of the NFL all offseason. Prove that this isn't SOL.

  12. they passed a law that had instructions to kill a guy named Brian Woodward? Did they make him drink old Flint Water? Was Snyder there too? Did the law have crazy fonts in it that people couldn't read? I'm confused here.

  15. I dunno if I can pick one... I mean, I'll be excited to see what Gibbs can do. I want to see if LaPorta ends up being worth the pick. I want to see what Campbell can do to help against the run and the pass. And I want to see what Branch brings to the table. If I had to rank 'em, it'd probably be like this: 1. Gibbs 2. Branch 3. Campbell 4. LaPorta

  16. I dunno... I can't think one. Maybe if there was a "Win and your in" game in the past? But even those where never with a team that I think any fan felt positive about being able to make a run in the playoffs. I will say that I don't think the hype is about this game as much as it is about the season starting. I sorta expect to lose honestly, but if the Lions can at least look like they belong on the field I'll be happy okay with the results.

  17. This article is fairly instructive about the current state of the war for Russia: I find this part the most interesting, and it supports the meat grinder observation because if there’s no sharing of information or learning due to lack of trust, what other way is there for them to win besides attrition through advantage of sheer numbers? Despite the notable changes and improvements over the past year, there are still many areas in which Russia’s military continues to perform poorly or is failing altogether. The Russian armed forces still cannot horizontally integrate their command and control, nor can they communicate commanders’ decisions and share information across different units in real time. As a result, Russian units deployed in proximity cannot effectively communicate with one another if they belong to different formations. Often, they cannot support one another because they have separate chains of command. This is not a technical glitch or a bureaucratic barrier. Rather, it is a deep structural problem that is unlikely to be solved without a systemic overhaul of Russia’s military and perhaps even its political system. Military command-and-control culture boils down to trust, and the militaries of authoritarian regimes such as Russia’s frequently have rigid and fragmented command-and-control structures because the political leadership does not trust the military leadership, and the military brass does not trust the rank and file. Such systems fail to successfully share information, discourage initiative, and prevent battlefield lessons from informing strategy or being incorporated into future military doctrine. These structural deficiencies are part of the Russian military’s DNA. They help explain why some of the hardest lessons Russia learned in other conflicts—in Chechnya, for instance, about the difficulties of urban warfare, and in Syria about the benefits of flexible and responsive command and control—are being learned anew in Ukraine after staggering losses in personnel and equipment. The Russian military is learning and adapting in its own way, but it remains to be seen whether it is capable of real transformational change.

  24. What do you expect? Six of the guys in today’s lineup have an OPS+ below 90. Another is a rookie heading in that direction. Any semi-competent MLB pitcher can handle a lineup like this.

  25. its been since the early to mid 90s that i was excited about the lions. barry, herman moore, brett perriman. by the mid 90s scott mitchell was supposed to be the final piece to that offense. 1991 they opened against washington (one of the best teams in nfl history) and got smacked 45-0. they went on to win the division and their only playoff game in the modern era (and then get smacked again by washington 41-10). so even if they get blown out its not the end of the world or the season. the other time was 1995 when they started off 0-3 and 2-5 but bounced back to make a wild card. that offense was humming down the stretch and all they had to do was go to philly and beat a .500 eagles squad with rodney flipping peete as qb... they were down 38-7 at halftime. fontes got an extension after the game. so im still a little gun shy about getting excited about detroit. once bitten, twice shy....bitten thirty five times and you might be really reticent to commit.

  26. I do think the sentiment in the highlighted should be reflected on a bit - not that I see the insinuation a ton here, but in the broader Tiger dialogue online it is sometimes insinuated that there's a bunch of daylight between Harris and Hinch on some of these personnel decisions, whether it's Candy or how certain players aren't getting called up quickly enough or that Hinch has used certain players more than he should to prove some sort of point to Harris (Maton is the best example here - as galaxy brain as it sounds, our old buddy Sportz has made this claim a few times this season). And there just isn't any evidence whatsoever to back it up the idea that there's any meaningful daylight between the two at this point, just pure vibes. It's almost like, for whatever reason, people project their own thoughts or emotions onto Hinch despite any lack of evidence that he thinks any of this stuff. I suppose it stems from the inferiority complex our fanbase has that someone who won a WS as a manager ended up managing this ballclub (particularly at the juncture he took the job), I don't know, but it's strange regardless.

  29. I never understood this mentality from fans. I couldn't care less if they beat them with or without Jones and Kelce as long as they get the W. People could put all the asterisks they want on it, doesn't mean jack to me, just be 1-0 after Week 1.

  30. Nevin and Lipcius can play part time. Malloy and Keith need full time work in AAA.
    1 point
  31. Lipcius has a .800 OPS in about a season of AAA plate appearances, he’s already on the 40, he’s 25 years old, he’s able to play more defensive positions than Malloy. He just might be more of a complete two way player right now and they probably need to see him at the MLB level of competition sooner given age and contract.
