This absolutely. I think Shep is taking the fall for a broadcast that is weak across the board. The loss of Morris hurt. For as much issue as anyone would have on his old school takes about the game, he did have a high level of presentation skill/talent. I wonder if the Tiger org may be deluding themselves that because Al Kaline rated well without having a high level of media skill, that media skill doesn't matter in the player in the booth. But it does matter. No-one else is, or will be, Al Kaline. It was not only his level of insight as a baseball mind, but also the fact that he was still on the field working with all these guys all Spring every year which gave him even more insight into the team than being just a run of the mill ex-player.2 points

I'm not sure a 1 war player, who is 30, making 12 million until 2031 should be called "favorable"2 points

I aways love watching the Jays get eliminated because I see it as yet another way for Leafs fans to feel pain. Same reason I cheer for nasty traffic jams on the Don Valley Parkway or Gardiner Expressway.2 points

Just his Midwest ties, the fact the angels are clearing house, he has little ties to the org and I'm sure apple would prefer him more central for their games. While he just started with the angels it's Bally and money makes everything happen. Plus I wanted to throw out a name that wasn't Mario for dicussion.2 points

I figured it was time to roll over for the new season! Should mean more SHL ice time for Buch!1 point

So his first name gets "starred" out, even though it's just a first name? End censorship now !1 point

It’s 2023 why aren’t these timers tied into a buzzer, or even a signal to the appropriate on field officials? It seem like a simple fix.1 point

Was he subsequently arrested, let out on bail and returnd with the de-mothballed BB-61 USS IOWA?1 point

The original critique was not that ICE shouldn't do or attempt border control, it was that Trump threw out ICE's plans for systems of integrated controls at the border that included fences, surveillance and technology in favor of a one-size fits all massive physical barrier which was going to cost much more and probably work less well in total. Like any and everything else in US politics, that has been sound-bited, twitted and shorthanded to Wall = Trump = bad/racist/stupid.1 point

PitchCom is between the pitcher and catcher with the fielders also having a receiver to listen to the pitch being called. Nobody off the field or in the dugout can send signals through it. What would have happened here is the catcher pushed some sequence of buttons to alert the pitcher to go with a pick off. For example, they might have had a code between then that said if I push the fastball button 3 times, throw to second.1 point

Edvinsson with last night's game winner...nice play by Compher to keep it in and Edvinsson walked in a bit from the blue line to beat Ned. He is the giant Paul Coffey1 point

Hah! I think that is more aptly titled: LEE'S MANTRA.1 point

It’s no worse than starting the season in several cold locales on March 20-whatever.1 point

Luckily there is only Minny and Philly left where the cold weather could possibly be a factor. Maybe Baltimore too but that would take an unseasonably cool day since their evenings in early November are still generally in the 50s at worst.1 point

Per Michigan High School seven-official mechanics (I don't know NFL but I believe it is the same despite them having eight officials), the Back Judge (center of field deep defensive backfield) is responsible for the play clock, while the Side Judge (first half visiting side of field deep defensive backfield) is responsible for the game clock. Philosophically, there is a difference. The play clock is given that extra 'beat', the game clock is not. Practically, as has been mentioned, you can't be looking at the ball and the clock at the same time. Depending on the location of the clock though, you should be able to see the clock hit zero and have the offensive players in your periphery. If there hasn't been mass movement in the periphery when you see 0:00, I would think that's probably enough to shut it down. I also feel like this is reviewable. Haven't we seen 4th quarter plays where the team is rushing to spike the ball and it's super close as to whether one second should be left, and that gets reviewed? Maybe I'm imagining it. I don't know why the 4th quarter should be different than the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd though in this regard. Unless they would claim the difference is that one is "whether the incomplete pass was completed with one second on the clock" and the other is "whether there was no time on the clock", though the latter is certainly easier to adjudge.1 point

A few others who worked national MLB games this year that I don't think have full time gigs with a team. Not endorsements, just throwing names out: Rich Waltz Matt Vasgersian Kevin Kugler Siera Santos I'm a big fan of Mike Ferrin, but again, not sure he wants it. Looking at the Big Ten Network as a possible feeder, I mentioned Jason Ross, but Connor Onion is another. There are probably several minor league announcers who will put in beyond Gania and Hasty, from other orgs.1 point

I should have added that there was also a runner on third, making it even more stupid.1 point

I didn't mind CMO one bit. He was a gentleman with my mentally handicapped brother when he asked for a picture. Seemed like a good voice to have. Read that as ... yes Detroit is a predominantly african american city...maybe have a voice that reflects that in the booth.1 point

That I am on board with. Also: Ask me if we should add pitching this offseason?1 point

If they are bringing CMo back there was no point getting rid of Shep. They could bring in the best PBP guy in the world but the rest of them are going to drag the broadcast down. Either elevate your whole game or don't bother. It's like firing the manager and expecting the mediocre team to improve.1 point

Speaking of which, did you notice the "fits" some of the teams wore yesterday? Tampa had their Devil Rays throwbacks on, and the Twins wore their City Connects. I guess that's going to be a thing during the playoffs to goose MLB Shop numbers. Just glad we don't have to see the Red Sox wear their UCLA colors.1 point
