It's not about getting Republicans to watch the Daily Show and then turning them away from Trump. It's about getting the Democrats and independents who watch the Daily Show to get motivated to go to the polls.3 points

Haley raised a lot of money overnight. Also appears that she has figured out how to attack the mentally unhinged criminal she's running against in the GOP primary. go hard Haley.3 points

Growing up my dad, who was retired, after going to bed, would get up at midnight and walk out in the front room in his underwear and T Shirt and flashlight and watch the Three Stooges on channel 50. every night my youngest son, special needs boy that he is, watches the three stooges that he records on the DVR as he falls asleep and laughs hysterically. I like to think there’s a connection going on somewhere between him and someone who died almost 14 years ago.2 points

It’s his shoulder so he should have no problem running routes against nobody. The challenge is how does he take a hit, or get off a jam at the line, or block in the run game.1 point

I hope Beltre's plaque doesn't have a hat. I hope his plaque has some sort of reaction for when people inevitably touch his head.1 point

it was obvious from his contract with detroit and what he was traded for the year before that the league sees chairot a lot differently than the analytics crowd. i think people value his toughness and physical nature. the ability to be a good locker room guy and a good soldier. yes, he makes bone headed mistakesz but he also brings hard checks and a good shot. those things matter even if they dont show up on corsi.1 point

I hope they don't reuse the line "I used to ____ guys like you in prison" as if it's a nostalgic line because that had to be one of the dumbest lines ever in the history of cinema.1 point

They are not exactly hands-off, the admin has actually continued many of the policies they criticized Trump for. But more generally Biden's problem is that immigration is to the Democratic party what Social Security is the GOP, a third rail topic. There are significant factions in the democratic party, factions that bring a lot of the necessary energy to the party, who believe in an open or nearly open border. It's concept where as a liberal i can applaud the sentiment intellectually but understand that it's insanity in practice. Somehow the sane part of the Democratic party has to *quietly* bring the uber-immigration-progressive part of the party into line with the public, whose position in big majorities across both parties is that immigration chaos in untenable. The other part of the dance is that Biden knows he needs to make a deal with the GOP on immigration and the GOP knows it as well and both sides are strategizing how to avoid the other side getting more credit with the voters.1 point

I think 3 is basically a toss up like the Lions over the Rams. Usually the home team gets a +3 bump. +7 is clear favorites.1 point

The only Lions gear I owned was a Matthew Stafford jersey and I shoved it in a clothing donation box before the game. I'm over my ex.1 point

Might as well wait and grab the Super Bowl Champion gear at this point!1 point

The Niners are actually very susceptible against the run, it's why I always thought they were a good matchup for the Lions. The Lions were somewhat pass happy last week because they were playing against an elite run defense but I think we'll see more of an emphasis on the run in this game.1 point

Trumpies don't believe in things like the moon landings, or that JFK is dead, etc. so we can trick them into thinking Obama is still alive.1 point

Cousins is going to SF to be reunited with Shanahan. The Niners are going to realize on Sunday that Brock Purdy was a flash in the pan and isn’t their guy. I’d guess Washington’s first move at QB would be to offer the Bears something stupid to move up one spot and see if that can convince Ryan Poles to stick with Fields instead of Caleb Williams (who is from DC).1 point

I don't even think the formulation in this tweet captures it. It isn't necessarily even that the law isn't *clear*, it's that regulatory legislation usually establishes a framework and objectives and the Executive branch formulates the rules in detail. That is the only way it can work in practice because the Congress has no technical expertise to get into the weeds.. The Right wants gut even this aspect.1 point

I think a lot of angry Bernie voters who sat it out or voted for Trump out of spite may have thought differently if Stewart was still around in 16. Trump didn't win by much. (technically he didn't even win)1 point

It depends on how the production company or network submits it. If they define it as a comedy, it gets submitted as a comedy. I think there is some method that the awards in question confirm it, so I don't think the bar is high. For instance, Rhea Seehorn (as Kim Wexler) was a lead actress in the final season of Better Call Saul, but the producers submitted her as a Supporting Actress - probably because they thought she had a better chance to win. If they producers of Amadeus had nominated F. Murray Abraham as Lead Actor and Tom Hulce as Supporting Actor, they both would have won Oscars that year, but they felt it would be an insult to Hulce to call him a Supporting Actor in that role. Their decision.1 point
